A name for our boy

namemybabyplease · 26/03/2021 22:46

We have a daughter called Edie and are having a boy later this year.

I want to call him Rupert but OH is not keen. We like Albert but are Albi and Edie too similar. Also like Alfred but is Freddie/Alfie too similar to Edie? I like Joe but not overly keen on Joseph. Any other suggestions would be welcomed!

I really like Rupert.

How about Rufus?

00100001 · 26/03/2021 22:50

If you like the Roo sound.

Suggest Reuben?

LookAChicken · 26/03/2021 22:51

Roland

Wowcherarestalkingme · 26/03/2021 22:53

I have an Albert and we call him Bert. I don’t think your suggestions are too similar, lovely names

BluebellsGreenbells · 26/03/2021 22:55

Jonah or Joel instead of Joseph

namemybabyplease · 26/03/2021 22:58

Thanks for these suggestions. I def like a strong vowel sound. Maybe Louie as it has the oo sound? I like Joel too.

@Wowcherarestalkingme Albert could easily become a Bert/Bertie. I wonder if we'd shorten it all as I love Albert as it is too but know it'd prob evolve into some kind of nickname. I think we'd most like call an Alfred Fred too, which isn't as similar to Edie as Freddie.

Jude

namemybabyplease · 26/03/2021 23:03

I love Jude! I wanted Rupert Jude. Both our names begin with J though- maybe three J's in one house is too many! OH likes Stanley.

Jude?
Jacob nn Jake
Laurence nn Laurie
Jethro
Jesse

If you go with Louis I would spell it like this/the conventional spelling or it looks like a girl’s nn for Louise

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 26/03/2021 23:44

Edie and
Lucas
Duke
Ruan

Fivemoreminutes1 · 27/03/2021 06:02

Jasper
Sidney
Percy
Barnaby
Rafe
Otis
Hugo

sarah13xx · 27/03/2021 07:24

I don’t think the names you’ve suggested sound too much like Edie. Freddie is the only one that’s similar I’d say. Freddie is in my top 3 though!
I love all the R names too..
Rowan
Roman
Ralph
Rafe
Reuben
Ruaridh
Or
Vincent (nn Vin/Vinnie)?
Ari (love this name sooo much but can’t use)

namemybabyplease · 27/03/2021 08:09

Thanks for all these ideas.
I quite like Rafe, or Rafferty?
Maybe Wilfred. It's hard to name a human!

Albert and Edie are gorgeous names. I would stick to your original name.

Flymetothestars · 27/03/2021 09:20

Stanley is nice what about Sidney?

Love Wilfred by the way

Laurence? Peter?

Flymetothestars · 27/03/2021 09:21

Tristan?

Instead of Albert what about Winston or Walter

Vincent?
Austin?
Kit?

Violetlavenders · 27/03/2021 14:24

I would avoid another-ie name. (Albie, Freddie, Louie etc)

How about
Quentin/Quinn
Reuben/Roo
Raphael
Marcus

ElderMillennial · 27/03/2021 16:33

I like Alfred, Albert, Jude

I like Rafe but is there also Raif and do some people pronounce Ralph as Rafe or Raf?

I like Kit and Joseph too

Pawprints2017 · 27/03/2021 18:30

I love Stanley. Maybe a but popular but Archie?

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 27/03/2021 20:27

Love Alfred and Wilfred, Joel is nice and Bertie's okay too (but I prefer it as a nn for Robert personally, avoids the Prince Albert association then too!). Stanley, Louie, Jude, Rafe/Rafferty and Rupert aren't my taste, sorry. If you want Joe, you could have Jonas as the longer form? I also like Nicholas (nn Nico or Cole) with Edie for some reason.

ElderMillennial · 27/03/2021 20:33

I like Archie

Also Nicholas and Oliver

HelpfulBelle · 27/03/2021 20:59

My boys are Alfred and Albert nn Freddie and Bertie Grin I get lots of compliments on their names, and, although I was worried that Alfred/Freddie would be popular, there are no others at school, and I’ve hardly taught any in fifteen odd years of teaching.

namemybabyplease · 27/03/2021 21:11

All these ideas are really helpful and will help us next time we discuss names (we are both ridiculously indecisive so we tend to avoid discussing it at all but we do have to choose soon!). Thanks for all your ideas and opinions- much appreciated x
