Yes or no ? Also possible nicknames?

I just think Bucket, sorry. I suppose Cynthia as a nickname could be quite sweet.
I do generally like flower names though.
What do you think of Azalea?

Dizzywizz · 25/03/2021 19:30

Omg I was thinking about this name yesterday! Hmm I just think of a certain Mrs Bucket!

Easterbunnygettingready · 25/03/2021 19:30

Please don't.. Plenty of pretty flower names..
That isn't one.

Orangesarenottheonlyfruit · 25/03/2021 19:44

What about other flower names like
Zinnia
Artemisia
Daphne
Hebe
Jonquil
Clover

VenusClapTrap · 25/03/2021 20:29

I like it actually.

PandaFluff · 25/03/2021 20:36

Maybe in 20-30 years time when Hyacinth Bucket is long gone in people's memories.

Noodlesnoodlesnoodles · 25/03/2021 20:37

I once knew a Hyacinth - wasn't sure about it at first, but it grew on me. She was a wonderful person. She went by the nn 'Hya'.

Joe50 · 25/03/2021 20:37

Sorrel?

Joe50 · 25/03/2021 20:39

Sorrel is a herb, I think it is a pretty name

IllNeverLetGoJack · 25/03/2021 21:33

Sorrel is nice.

Not a flower name, but maybe Hermione?

Viviennemary · 25/03/2021 21:35

I've heard a lot worse. But on balance no. What about Violet.

partyatthepalace · 25/03/2021 22:58

Bridgerton?! 👗

For me it’s a no - just too lispy - Daphne is a nice flower name though, there is also Jasmine, Amaryllis, Rosemary, Violet/Viola, Ione, Cassia, Briar, Flora, Rosanna, Genista, Bay, Laurel and Fern - as well as the ubiquitous Rose, Iris & Lily🌷🌻🌺🌸🌼🌹

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 25/03/2021 23:00

Too much for me (and to anyone over 35 or so, the Mrs Bucket references will be inescapable unfortunately)- but I like other uncommon floral/plant names - Zinnia, Acacia, Dahlia, Jessamine, Bryony etc

pinkpinecone · 26/03/2021 06:39

Bucket

PurBal · 26/03/2021 06:40

I like it.

PurBal · 26/03/2021 06:44

FWIW I mentioned Rupert to an older relative and she scowled and said "Rupert Bear, you can't call your child that, he'll get teased". Except you can and people do and he won't. Yes Hyacinth has Bucket connotations but children aren't likely to know this and no self respecting adult is going to comment on it. Also, Hyacinth Bucket is a funny character so nothing to be "ashamed" oh. It's a nice name and Hyacinth is a Bridgerton name too. If you like it, go for it.

BlondehairRedlips · 26/03/2021 08:28

I'm mid 20s and had no idea who Hyacinth bucket was so had to Google it

Also to the poster asking if I watch Bridgerton, I don't , I was looking at unusual flower names and really liked it

Also didn't realise Cynthia could be nn for Hyacinth, that makes me love it even more!

I don’t think it can - Cynthia is a full name in itself, not a nickname for another name.
user1493494961 · 26/03/2021 09:32

Just call her Cynthia then (although equally as awful as Hyacinth).

FeedMeSantiago · 26/03/2021 09:51

I'm early 30s and my first thought was Hyacinth Bucket. I doubt many children these days would have seen the programme so the association would only exist with their parents, depending on their parents age.

Hyacinths are beautiful flowers - I love the smell so that is my second association with the name.

florascotia2 · 26/03/2021 10:16

In Greek myths, Hyacinth was the name of a beautiful young gay man, killed in an athletics accident. www.britannica.com/topic/Hyacinthus

Justwatchthewildflowersgrow · 26/03/2021 10:50

I like it. My daughter is Primrose and I got all sort of comments about Primrose shipman? I don't even know who that is! I wouldn't let it put you off if you like the name then go for it. Whose a bunch of strangers in the Internet to tell you what names you can and can't use. I personally can't stand names like nevaeh, gracie-mai any sort of names like that but I wouldn't tell someone not to call their child it if its a name they loved.

Good luck with your cute little baby xx

Lizadork · 26/03/2021 11:12

I thought bucket too, but kids and the younger generation likely won't have a clue. If you feel it is too out there, maybe use as a middle name. I do like it.

FamilyOfAliens · 26/03/2021 13:56

I couldn’t agree less - I love the look of them but they smell of cat wee to me.
