Hi there, I'm not a native English speaker. My baby's name is Ivy. I feel it's very natural for me to call her Vivi. Is Vivi OK as a nickname for Ivy?
Thank you!

Yes, Vivi is a cute nickname, but Ivy itself is a short and sweet name that perhaps doesn't need a nickname? Totally up to you, though, whatever you want to call your DD.

Violetlavenders · 24/03/2021 14:09

Ivy is so short and sweet. I wouldn't shorten it!

Vivi is short for Vivienne or Vivian.

ginandgingers92 · 24/03/2021 14:15

When I read 'Ivy' my brain automatically went to Vivi, but you can call her whatever you like :)

Mrsjayy · 24/03/2021 14:18

I also thought Vivi as soon as I saw ivy. It is very cute and if you like calling her that then just do it 😀

LadyCatStark · 24/03/2021 14:21

You can give her any nickname you like!

Scarby9 · 24/03/2021 14:23

Tiddles, Toodle-push...
You can have any nickname you want.

ThisIsMyID · 24/03/2021 14:23

I like Veeeee as a nickname for Ivy. Ivy is adorable as it is. But she's your little one - you can call her what you like..... except Malcolm.

Bumblebee1980a · 24/03/2021 14:24

Love Vivi as a name - super cute!

usedandabusedx1000 · 24/03/2021 14:26

I call mine “ive” as in sounds like “hive”

WrenBaby · 24/03/2021 14:29

I call mine "Ives" (just happened, not intentionally), I do like "Vivi"

MrsTerryPratchett · 24/03/2021 14:31

Nicknames can be longer. Or the same length. Or shorter. They can be a version of the name. Or totally unrelated to the name itself!

English is weird.

dootdoot · 24/03/2021 14:35

V or Vee, honestly nicknames generally come naturally, whatever rolls off the tongue!

Yuqin · 24/03/2021 14:44

Thanks for everyone's quick reponse. Yes I just realise I can call her whatever I like. Grin I like calling little one with repeating sounds. Vivi sounds very sweet to me.

And this rule applies to Chinese too.:D

That's nice. Maybe it's a universal to call children a variety of silly names!
