Thoughts?
We have a list of 5 potentials, but we both really like this I think, so I fear I'm making the list even bigger!!!
Would use Fran/Frannie for a nickname I think. DP is a big fan of a nickname.

Lovely name! I like Frankie as a nickname and I like that there are a few options for a nickname.

NameChangedForThisFeb21 · 24/03/2021 10:16

I like it. It’s an elegant non fussy name.

ShipOfTheseus · 24/03/2021 10:16

Yes, it’s great.

PandaFluff · 24/03/2021 10:17

Nice name. I don't like Frannie but Fran and Frankie are nice. It's like Francesca but a nice shorter option.

reprehensibleme · 24/03/2021 10:18

Lovely.

DoubleTweenQueen · 24/03/2021 10:20

Yes - lovely. Less fussy version of Francesca.

DoubleTweenQueen · 24/03/2021 10:22

I also really like Francis for a boy :)

TatianaBis · 24/03/2021 12:07

It's ok, bit meh. Like Fran as nn, much better than Frankie.

SmeleanorSmellstrop · 24/03/2021 12:57

I like it! Franny and Frankie are cute

partyatthepalace · 24/03/2021 13:24

I love it. Hugely underused.

ClaraBean · 24/03/2021 19:24

Hmmm. I hadn't considered Frankie as a nn. I really don't like it!!! Maybe if we start with Fran it'll never be a Frankie nn. Or maybe we scrap it. Hmmmm. Will have a think.

Ok as a middle name but too many hiss sounds. Cessess. Too crisp for a first name

NameChangedForThisFeb21 · 24/03/2021 19:27

The Frances I know (30s) is a Fran and has been since she was a little girl. It’s such a classy, elegant name that it would be a pity to use Frankie! Don’t write it off, just correct people that her name isn’t Frankie. My friend Frances would be horrified if anyone called her Frankie!

custardbear · 24/03/2021 19:30

It's really subjective - I like Francesca and Francine more than Frances - gives better plethora of nn too

midsomermurderess · 24/03/2021 19:31

I really like it. The one I know has only ever been Frances.

TatianaBis · 24/03/2021 19:31

I prefer Francesca to Frances. Gives you the options of Cesca as well as Fran.

LubaLuca · 24/03/2021 19:35

I love Frances. It's such a strong and classy name. My husband wouldn't even consider it because he thought it was too masculine.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 24/03/2021 19:42

Cissy is a nice nn for Frances...

MissFlite · 24/03/2021 19:53

Love it, was on my list

DramaAlpaca · 24/03/2021 19:56

Frances is lovely, so elegant and unfussy. I don't mind Fran as a diminutive but I can't bear Frankie.

AbstractHeart · 24/03/2021 19:57

Reminds me of the baddie in Deadpool. His name is a punchline basically.

TheVanguardSix · 24/03/2021 20:02

I love this name and nearly always put it on my MN 'suggested' list of baby names. My cousin's daughters are Frances and Pearl, names I love.

MaryBoBary · 24/03/2021 20:10

I really dislike this name for a girl, to me it is a very masculine sounding name. Not feminine or 'pretty' which would be more my taste. I don't mind it so much for a boy but still don't like it. Would much prefer Francesca for a girl.

ClaraBean · 24/03/2021 20:11

@TheVanguardSix - oh wow. My 15 year old dad is called Pearl. She'll be 16 when this one is born so won't call them in from the garden together but Frances and Pearl are adorable!

I can't help but always read it as a plural to France 🤷🏼‍♀️
