3 syllable surname, pretty common surname. None of the names are close to mine or my DH.

So, if it's a girl:

Layla
Kenzie
Amaya

Boy

Jackson (I must admit this goes really well with our surname but it's quite common) but jack or jax for short
Joshua - josh for short

I love Kenzie! My ds has a 16 year old friend called Kenzie but apart from her, I've never heard it before.

Not keen on Jackson or Jax so would choose Joshua for a boy.

Fivemoreminutes1 · 23/03/2021 19:09

I like Layla best, although I’d spell it Leila. Layla to me looks like it might be a nickname for something else, but Leila seems like a full name and is the more usual spelling I think.

Noodlesnoodlesnoodles · 23/03/2021 19:13

I love Layla, but would spell it Leila - it looks much more sophisticated to me. I dislike Kenzie. Amaya is ok, but I prefer Maya. I like Jackson, though prefer Jack as a standalone name. Not keen on Joshua.

OohImBlindedByTheLights · 23/03/2021 19:16

Ah see I would want to spell it Layla as I prefer that spelling..

I've said to DH, if it's a straight forward birth (as in SVD birth) then layla lol but any sign of a fight from her the Kenzie (I got the name from the girl in NCIS:LA lol!!

Joshua the rest are awful (sorry)

partyatthepalace · 23/03/2021 22:13

Joshua is great
Jackson is alright - the trouble is Jack has been done to death, but anyway please don’t spell it with an x, it is grim

Leila is quite nice if spelt properly
Amaya is ok - bit meh, bit downmarket
Kenzie is made up and very downmarket like Jax - I know names shouldn’t have associations like that, but they do.

Happenchance · 23/03/2021 22:17

I like Amaya (I also like Amara).

I like the sound of Joshua but the name has negative associations for me because I've never met a Joshua that I like. I much prefer Josiah, which could also have the nn Josh.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 23/03/2021 22:41

I'd pick Joshua and Amaya of your choices - although I prefer similar Amara as I think Amaya could get confused with popular (but nice) Maya. I like Leila but not Layla (too Clapton). Kenzie and Jackson are very trendy imo, so I think they might date, sorry.

Firebird83 · 23/03/2021 22:50

Joshua and Amaya

DarcyJack · 23/03/2021 22:57

Leila and Joshua are best.

Ikeameatballs · 23/03/2021 23:00

I like Amaya and Joshua best.

I really like Leila but not Layla!

Kenzie is the second half of MacKenzie which means 'son of Kenneth' - so calling a girl Kenzie would be like calling a girl Kenneth. But it's up to you, of course.

Kendra is sometimes used as the female equivalent of Kenneth. Kenna is another alternative.

Joshua is lovely, agree with pp the rest are awful.
