Just wondering what everyone’s opinions are on the names Mavis Penelope and Ivan Ezekiel for siblings

Love the having a V in both names!
Not my bag but do go well!!

partyatthepalace · 23/03/2021 10:03

Penelope is taking old lady chic too far for me, but otherwise - grand.

partyatthepalace · 23/03/2021 10:04

I meant Mavis not Penelope!

TitusPullo · 23/03/2021 10:05

Sib set is a bizarre term. Your children are individuals away from their siblings, their names don’t need to match.

TitusPullo · 23/03/2021 10:05

I did wonder @partyatthepalace - I thought it odd you found Penelope old fashioned but not Mavis!

Easterbunnygettingready · 23/03/2021 10:24

Imo all siblings should have similar rating names... Either all traditional or a a bit fiesty!! Al my dc have quite unusual names although a couple did gain popularity..

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 23/03/2021 11:50

Not my taste, sorry. Although I do like similar May and Ivo...

AfterSchoolWorry · 23/03/2021 11:58

They're a mixed bag.

Mavis: Comedic older English lady in a tabard. I much prefer Mabel.
Penelope: I don't like it but I love the shortening Nell.
Ivan: Russian? I like this.
Ezekiel: Biblical, Hebrew? I like it.

I like names to chime together, all biblical, all, French, all African, Irish etc and not incongruous with the surname.

But those are just my rules. Others like eclectic mixes.

Aquamarine1029 · 23/03/2021 12:01

Mavis is awful, sorry.

JellyMouldJnr · 23/03/2021 12:03

I think Ivan Ezekial is hard to say together so that's a no from me. I really like Ivan though Also I am too old to like the name Mavis I think (it is an old lady name for me), but love Penelope.

MrsDoctorDear · 23/03/2021 12:21

Mavis and Ivan could be cute.

The middle names are irrelevant, they won't be used after birth announcement.

MrsDoctorDear · 23/03/2021 12:23

Agree with PP that May is lovely, much nicer.

partyatthepalace · 23/03/2021 14:47

How bout Maud and Ivo?!

steppemum · 23/03/2021 14:51

Do you know I am of the generation that think of these as old lady names and really dislike the current trend for them.

But I like Mavis. Somehow it has more personality than May and Mabel is awful. Maud feels much more old lady.

Maybe it is the Mavis and Ivan combo, which I think is a good one.

TatianaBis · 23/03/2021 20:06

I'd say they're an indigestible combinations of sounds and associations.

Mavis (Celtic/French) with Penelope (Ancient Greek) with Ivan (Russian) with Ezekial (old biblical).

DramaAlpaca · 23/03/2021 21:57

I love Penelope, but otherwise we don't have the same taste in names.

DramaAlpaca · 23/03/2021 21:59

I've just read TatianaBis's post above mine - yes, she's right. As well as being names I don't like, they are such a mishmash of styles they sound very clunky together.

user1493494961 · 23/03/2021 22:15

Weird combinations, plus Mavis is awful (and Ivan's not much better).

MinnieKat · 24/03/2021 06:02

I love Mavis! Seems I’m alone.

Personally I think the combination is great. Middle names are rarely used anyway so I think Mavis and Ivan are good together.

PandaFluff · 24/03/2021 09:21

Sounds good to me. I would just name them something that sounds good when you call for them. MAVIS! IVAN! GET HERE NOW Grin doesn't matter if they are the same "style" or not.

Isadora2007 · 24/03/2021 09:27

No. Agree with the others there’s too much of a mish mash and no style as such.

viques · 24/03/2021 09:38

Maeve is a gentler name to live with than Mavis . Ivan Ezekiel is awful on both counts.

Though I used to know someone who had the band name Ivan Astycoff. Just saying, it would be unique.......
