Elizabeth. Nickname Libby or Beth.

Kittybelle123 · 21/03/2021 20:14

Absolutely Eleanor.

RuthW · 21/03/2021 20:15

Elizabeth is much nicer

Bicnod · 21/03/2021 20:17

Both beautiful. Which nicknames do like best -

Libby, Liz, Lizzie, Beth, Betsy etc

Or

Ellie, Elle, Nora

I love ALL of the above.

I like both. Sorry!

Longdistance · 21/03/2021 20:31

I have an Eleanor. My dd2’s middle name is Elizabeth. We all have classic names, until you get to dh who is Kevin 🤦🏼‍♀️

MrsBDarcy · 21/03/2021 20:44

Both beautiful but if you want Eleanor you may not get it as I know several Ellies whose parents hate it.

Quercus3 · 21/03/2021 20:50

Elizabeth, nicer nicknames

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 21/03/2021 20:58

Both are lovely classic "can't go wrong names" - although Eleanor is currently more popular (particularly as similar Ellie/Ella are very popular too) where as Elizabeth is very timeless and tends to have steady popularity levels.

Like pp, I'd decide based on which nn's you prefer as I suspect both names might get shortened. Elizabeth has dozens of different style options (although I like Bess or Beth best), Eleanor has about half a dozen - but I really love Nell, so I'd be tempted to pick Eleanor for that reason!

partyatthepalace · 21/03/2021 21:28

Both very nice and quite popular. Not helpful! - however - They will probably get shortened - so do the nn options help you decide?? ..

Eleanor default is igoing to be Ellie/Ella, so if you don’t want that you’ll need to establish Nell, Lena or Nora. Elizabeth -many more options - Eliza, Liza, Beth/an, Betsy, Betty, Buffy, Bess/ie Lillian, Lily, Lizzy, Libby, Liesel, Ella, Elsa/Elsie, Lily, Tess...

Violetlavenders · 21/03/2021 21:37

I prefer Elizabeth.

I also like Elena

capercaillie · 21/03/2021 21:59

Elizabeth

Beautiful name. Don’t like shortenings of Eleanor although love the name

BiBabbles · 21/03/2021 22:15

Both are lovely - I lean towards Eleanor (though I prefer Leanora).

The previous comment on popularity had me looking it up as I haven't seen either as popular near me and it looks they're about neck and neck in England and Wales though very different story elsewhere.

Noodlesnoodlesnoodles · 21/03/2021 22:39

Eleanor - beautiful name. I like Nell as a nn too.

Elizabeth is a bit dull, but I like the nn Beth.

ChocOrange1 · 21/03/2021 22:43

Eleanor is lovely, but Ellie is really common and a bit boring. If I had Eleanor I would call her Nora.

Elizabeth is classic too. There are a lot of nicknames and none of them is a "go to" nickname. People will assume Eleanor is Ellie, they would not assume a nickname for Elizabeth as there are so many. Betsy is really cute for a little one, or Beth or Liza for an adult.
