I've recently found out I'm pregnant and these two names are in my mind.

I love Celeste , it was in my list but too many s's with our surname .
Elegent ,lovely soft sounding and not many about .

GuckGuckDoose · 21/03/2021 20:47

Celeste and Juliette are great.

en0la · 21/03/2021 20:47

Shannon reminds of the sad case of Shannon Matthews so I wouldn't use it.

Saladd0dger · 21/03/2021 20:49

DD16 is Shannon. I loved the name growing up. Never knew any when I named her. Now there’s loads.

Shortiemyboo · 21/03/2021 20:54

Dont like either

3CCC · 21/03/2021 21:28

Celeste 2 really like
Shannon 5 90s as my dm would call it a bit common
Fallon 3 quite like it not heard of it before the dynasty reboot
Juliette 4
Eden 1
Arden 5 surname of a guy used to have a crush on not heard it as a first name
Dixie 6 will be called Ditzy

3CCC · 21/03/2021 21:30

Noelle between Fallon & Juliette

Violetlavenders · 21/03/2021 21:36

I much prefer Celeste.

lottiegarbanzo · 21/03/2021 21:42

Oh, Juliet and Noelle are lovely.

Celeste is nice too (though I realised it doesn't sound as nice spoken out loud as it looks and feels. Harsher. Less soft and celestial).

CaffiSaliMali · 21/03/2021 22:59

Shannon is very 90s. Celeste is much nicer but did remind me of Daphne and Celeste (ooh, stick you, your mama too, and your daddy). Showing my age!

Juliette/Juliet is lovely. Eden is also nice.

Ki0612 · 21/03/2021 23:12

Im not being mean i thought this was a thread about birth control.

MrsFin · 21/03/2021 23:13

If you go for Noelle, it should be Noëlle.
HTH.

SionnachRua · 21/03/2021 23:17

Celeste - very pretty
Shannon - meh
Fallon - noooope
Juliette - I like Juliet but not Juliette, just a tad unnecessarily frilly
Eden - ok
Arden - seems a bit made up
Dixie - nah, bit tacky.
Adriana - gorgeous
Noelle - nice

I think I'd go with Adriana tbh. Very diverse list!

GreyhoundG1rl · 21/03/2021 23:19

Seren is the only one you've mentioned that I'd consider, tbh.
For the love of God not Dixie!!

NameChangedForThisFeb21 · 21/03/2021 23:22

Celeste. Definitely not Shannon!

NameChangedForThisFeb21 · 21/03/2021 23:22

Although Erin isn’t dissimilar to Shannon but is much nicer and doesn’t have the same connotations.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 21/03/2021 23:30

I love Shannon and Fallon is gorgeous. I don't really have any opinion on Celeste. Also love Eden from your new list.
You seem to be like me and have a very wide variety of naming styles. You wouldn't typically expect someone who likes the name Shannon to also like Juliette. You couldn't two more extremes if you tried.
Shannon certainly doesn't have to be a No just because a few people on Mumsnet don't like it.

Lipz · 21/03/2021 23:31

@Murtaghjames

Celeste Shannon Fallon Juliette Eden Arden Dixie
I worked with a Celeste, the lads called her Mollest, can't un hear that when I hear the name.

Shannon, is OK, but am from Ireland so we associate it with the airport and river.

Fallon sounds like a paint.

Juliette, it's lovely.

Eden is lovely too.

Arden is like Elizabeth Arden

Dixie....... Whistling Dixie

Ikeameatballs · 21/03/2021 23:34

Celeste, Noelle and Juliette are all lovely.

Tambourina · 21/03/2021 23:39

Celeste - footballer's daughter sort of name
Shannon - no
Fallon - just no
Juliette - lovely
Eden - no
Arden - no no no
Dixie - Jesus, please say you're joking

ZoyaTheDestroyer · 21/03/2021 23:40

The pill is Cilest so at least spelt differently. I wonder if people avoid Yasmin for the same reason.

Postprandial · 22/03/2021 05:56

@DramaAlpaca

Celeste is beautiful, very elegant. I'm not keen on Shannon as a name.

I live in Ireland, somewhere not far from the river Shannon, and I don't associate it with anything 'trashy'. It's either the river or Shannon Airport to me. Which is probably why it's not used much as a first name over here.

Or the business park/industrial estate. Grin

You have quite ‘dated’ taste, OP. I don't mean that unpleasantly, but these all sound as if they were popular quite some time ago, but not long enough ago to have come back. Juliet is the nicest by far.

scentedgeranium · 22/03/2021 06:08

I think a lot of names depend on the beholder too. i know a 24 year old Shannon who is by MN standards from a trashy background, single parent family, multiple siblings from different fathers. Went to school with DS. But smashed her exams, was confident and musical, went to uni, now has an enviable and quite glam job. She owns her name and herself and isn't in the least trashy. So I associate the name with her!
I know another Shannon slightly less well who is a geophysicist.
So of the two I'd say Shannon!

OpusAnglicanum · 22/03/2021 08:26

Fallon sounds a bit Dallas to me

Fallon Carrington Colby was actually in Dynasty. She first appeared in 1981, apparently. I think we are meant to infer that the only other Fallon I’ve ever heard of (in the Archers) was named after her.

So, a bit dated?

LadyCatStark · 22/03/2021 08:31

Shannon is the Sharon/ Tracey of the late nineties/ early 2000s.
