I don't like Jesse or Riley, Jack I would expect to be older, Joshua is lovely.

Joshua sounds best with James. Jack is nice but doesn’t flow well with James. Jesse sounds awful with James and I don’t like Riley.

Jesse is gorgeous! But you can't have Jesse James. Wasn't Jesse James... Someone? I can't remember who. A cowboy or something?
Joshua is lovely, but also Joshua James might be a bit much, although it doesnt sound bad. I agree a second middle name (to go before James) would be nice.
Jack is nice but dull. Jack sounds awful with James.
Riley is chavvy.

Joshua is lovely, one of my absolute favourite names... I'm not so keen on Riley, sorry.

When paired with James in the middle, Jesse James is a no no sorry. Jack James is just two versions of the same name so is another no from me.

Joshua 'Something' James would be great if that's an option.

Favourite is Joshua. Least favourite by far is Riley.

Jack is the best, but like Joshua has been overused. Which of the two sounds best with the surname?

Jesse is my favourite, Joshua least favourite.

Jack is ok.
Jesse and Riley least good.

I prefer James as a first name to any on your list.

Otherwise Joshua is favourite.

I don't think Joshua is dated, I know it was popular in the 1990s but I think it's timeless. It's not like Gary, Kevin etc where if you were to meet a baby with those names it would feel odd.

Anyway notice this is an old thread, I wonder what OP went for!

Least favourite - Jack, it's way overused (feels like every other baby boy is Jack right now)

Joshua is my favourite.

Jesse is my least favourite, in Scotland 'Jessie' is a slang term for a weedy person, which puts me off.

I'm not really a fan of Joshua but it definitely goes best with James.

Jack is my favourite off the list, just not with James as the middle name.
Jesse is nice too, but again not with James

Riley is my least favourite by a mile.

Joshua is the best out of that list, for me. Riley is by far the worst. Very common name around here (Canada) and I've yet to meet one who left a good impression.

I like Jack and dislike Riley and Jesse (especially with James as middle name - you can't call him Jesse James)

I'm indifferent about Joshua.

Jesse always reminds me of the girl's name Jessie (Jessica).
Riley reminds me of the phrase "living the life of riley ".
So it's no to those two.
Jack used to be the nickname for John, but I don't mind it as a given name. Joshua is top for me.

I really like Riley, but I do have a lovely friend called Riley albeit she is a 60 year old Finnish women.
My least favourite is Jesse
