Ok please don’t judge me for being so stupid but when I saw the name thais I thought it was Tay-as which I really liked as a contrasting middle name for a quite soft and feminine first name
But it’s actually more like Th-ice
Thank goodness I googled and checked before she was here and already named!!

Can you suggest any names that I may like instead?
Thais is lovely but It doesn’t go with the other name/our surname

Another name I really liked for the middle name was James. But DH has vetoed.

Are you sure it's not Thijs? It's pronounced Tice and I think is a Dutch or Afrikaans form of Matthew.

If you google the pronunciation is thice But I’ve seen some French pronunciations that are more like Thai-ees

I had believed it to be a Greek feminine name though

Yep Tie-eese

AuntieStella · 20/03/2021 21:13

The one I knew pronounced her name Tie-eese

And yes, Greek (courtesan who accompanied Alexander the Great)

It might help if you spell it with the diacritic - Thaïs - to make it clearer that it's two syllables. But as you can see from this thread, it's a name that would lead to a lifetime of explaining how to say

merryhouse · 20/03/2021 21:14

Musicians will pronounce it Ty-eece

(very irritating but it gets the message across) (Massanet's Meditation)

There would always be some idiot who would find it funny to call her Thighs.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 20/03/2021 22:11

Theia could be a similar option? It's a lovely ancient Greek Titan name, usually pronounced "Thay -ah".

Sorry no, it just looks like a Thai restaurant to me.

PlainJane1000 · 21/03/2021 06:49
