@GreyhoundG1rl

God knows. You've just made up the name, who are we to tell you how to pronounce it?
If you can’t be arsed to read the whole thread, at least read the OPs posts 🙄🙄

Just ask your friend! Smile

My daughter's name can be pronounced a few different ways (it's not an unusual name, just has different pronunciations) and I've never been offended when someone has asked how I'd like them to pronounce it. I'm sure your friend would rather you asked than you make an attempt and her have to correct you if you're wrong.

For what it's worth I have no idea how I'd pronounce that one, possibly nah-vee

Bunnybigears · 20/03/2021 16:34

I thought maybe it was just a name I had never come across and everyone would know how to pronounce it but obviously its not the case so I will just ask. Thanks.

I’d think Na - vee like the workmen Confused

Bet it’s pronounced, navy though.

Poor kid Hmm

Bunnybigears · 20/03/2021 16:38

DH has manged to find it on Google (when I tried it just kept thinking I was spelling it wrong) apparently it is pronounced Neh vie and means beautiful bird.

So, Neh (like a horse's 'neigh'?) then 'vie'........ surely that is Navy then ?

To be fair if your friend has chosen a really unusual name, she's going to have to get used to people asking how it is pronounced - or, more truthfully, over her life, the child.

Bunnybigears · 20/03/2021 16:51

Not Neigh a shorter Neh no y sound, I dknt know row to wright it. Maybe like how you would pronounce meh but with a n.

Nahr Vi, its the old French for Navy

Blueberries0112 · 20/03/2021 16:52

It would rhyme with wavy

PandaFluff · 20/03/2021 16:54

Nay-vee like Davy

PandaFluff · 20/03/2021 16:55

Oh! Glad you let us know thanks
Zig4zag · 20/03/2021 17:19

Navy the colour. Nah-vee would be spelt Navee (like Naveen without the n)

partyatthepalace · 20/03/2021 17:21

Navvy

Violetlavenders · 20/03/2021 17:32

As it's written Nav-ie (Navv ee)

Violetlavenders · 20/03/2021 17:34

Nah-vee would be spelt Navee (like Naveen without the n)

No I would pronounce Navee as Nav-EE with the emphasis on the second syllable

And Navie as NAH-vee with the emphasis on the first syllable

Violetlavenders · 20/03/2021 17:35

Like short for Navigation system - Navie

Ineedaneasteregg · 20/03/2021 17:41

Nice meaning but sadly not what people in the UK are going to think of first.
I'd pronounce it like the canal builders.

saraclara · 20/03/2021 17:45

IstandwithJackieWeaver · 20/03/2021 17:45

@cantmovewont

Na-Vee - is that not another name for the toilet?
Isn't that lavvy or khazi?
Onlinedilema · 21/03/2021 10:09

Either Navy as in the colour, or Navvy as in slang for the Royal Navy.
Either way never heard of it. I do think Navvy is slang for toilet.

RosesAndHellebores · 21/03/2021 10:13

Sounds like the issue of a one night stand in Portsmouth to me. Nevaeh would be marginally better Grin

TeckanandMultra · 21/03/2021 13:08

Nah-VEE. Like c'est la vie.

MarieDelaere · 21/03/2021 13:12

Oh, so like N'Vee, with the stress on the VEE?

Itsjustaride8w737 · 22/03/2021 08:54

I'd say Nave, to rhyme with cave.

Firebird83 · 22/03/2021 09:00

Nay-vee, like Navy. It’s becoming a bit of a trendy name in the US at the moment.
