Stuck between these two for a girl.

Also some boy name suggestions as I haven’t seen a single boys name that ive liked!

They are very different.
Astrid is increasing in popularity and gets a mixed response here. I like it but would avoid with a middle name or surname starting with E.
Josephine is very nice and gives options of Jo, Josie, Joss, Sephy as nn.

KirstenBlest · 19/03/2021 13:06

or Posy.

DarcyJack · 19/03/2021 13:06

Both good but I would plump for Josephine

ILoveStickers · 19/03/2021 13:09

Love Astrid.

Josephine is fine, but I'm personally not a fan of female versions of male names.

midsomermurderess · 19/03/2021 13:20

Josephine. But that might be because of her in Spiral.

Noodlesnoodlesnoodles · 19/03/2021 13:34

Josephine is lovely - lots of nickname potential. I dislike Astrid. Think it sounds 'hard', I don't like the 'ass' beginning and it's quite trendy, so I worry it will date.

Tatum1234 · 19/03/2021 13:37

Astrid

Ploughingthrough · 19/03/2021 13:38

I prefer Josephine by quite a lot

partyatthepalace · 19/03/2021 13:41

Love Astrid but I think it will become the name of the minute.

So if that puts you off then Josephine, which is nice -

Or Anouk?!

CeeceeBloomingdale · 19/03/2021 13:43

Love Astrid, would consider it myself for fictional future child. Josephine doesn’t appeal to me at all.

GuckGuckDoose · 19/03/2021 13:47

Astrid all day long, it’s been on my ‘list’ for both kids, so over 5 years now, and I still haven’t met one having lived in 3 different places in that time, so I don’t think it’s becoming THAT popular. Have met several Josies though (at least one of whom was a Josephine)

PlanetPuddle · 19/03/2021 13:50

I don't like Astrid personally but Josephine is lovely.

Quercus3 · 19/03/2021 14:30

Josephine

NoMoreZigAndSharko · 19/03/2021 15:08

Josephine

user1493494961 · 19/03/2021 20:07

Josephine, dislike Astrid.

DramaAlpaca · 19/03/2021 21:15

Josephine.

Astrid makes me think of astringent.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 19/03/2021 22:12

It depends on what style you prefer - Astrid is very Scandi/European cool sounding, where as Josephine is much more classic sounding (in the UK) although both are pretty, elegant names that are underused.

If you really aren't sure, Josephine is the safer option - no "Ass" sound and lots of different style nn options if she doesn't like the full version (Jo/Joey/Jos/Josie/Effie/Sephie/Gigi/Posy).

MrsAMMcCannisacunt · 19/03/2021 22:13

Josephine

allycat4 · 19/03/2021 22:31

Astrid

Ninkanink · 19/03/2021 22:41

I much prefer Josephine.

Astrid is a very harsh sounding name in English.

thistimelastweek · 19/03/2021 22:42

Boy's name suggestion. Joseph?

One of my very favourite names.

FluWorldOrder · 19/03/2021 23:31

I have Astrid on my girls list as well and my daughter has Josephine as a middle name so I love them both! I'm also stuck on boys names but have just seen Hugh on another thread which I don't mind although probably prefer Hugo. I also like Emmett but DH isn't a fan. Other than that I'm drawing blanks for boys unfortunately.

Ikeameatballs · 19/03/2021 23:39

They are very different.

I think that Josephine is highly likely to become known by a nickname so it’s worth thinking how you feel about that and which nn you would prefer etc.

If you like Astrid you might like:
Greta
Lena
Ingrid
Heidi
Alina
Freida
Nina

For boys:

Rupert
Miles
Walter
Cillian
Stanley
Edwin

Barneybear11 · 19/03/2021 23:41

I like Astrid but I also like Josephine. Lots of nice nicknames.
I went to school with an Astrid (I’m mid 30s), everyone called her asteroid.

Merename · 19/03/2021 23:44

Love Astrid and dislike Josephine! Agree with others - very different names.
