Hi all my partner really wants an Italian name but I'm struggling to find a boy name that we both like. Have come across Ravello? What do you think?

Sounds like a naff sauce brand or cheap mock chocolate.

I don’t hate it and it shows imagination.

Florence, Siena, Milan, Roman, Emilia... I guess you could justify it that way.

I prefer Raffaello though.

Valentino, Guiseppe, Fabio, Rafael, Sergio, Vincenzo, Lorenzio, Carrado, Bruno, Quirino, Leonardo, Fernando, Romeo.
There are so many beautiful strong names. But you pick Ravello!

Right, my parents are not British, but gave me a British name as this is where we live and have grown up.
Are you intending to live in Italy? If not, go with a British name.
I have married a Brit and you wouldn’t know from my name I’m foreign. Funnily enough, I’m very British sounding but speak the other language fluently too. Always a fun surprise 😁

A mumsnetter boden favourite?

TatianaBis · 18/03/2021 21:34

It doesn’t mean rebel, it derived from the Latin rebellum which is not quite the same.

Ribele is rebel in Italian.

CorvusPurpureus · 18/03/2021 22:23

It's fine. Easy to spell & pronounce. Obvious sensible short form.

I don't love it, but if you do, I can't see why not! It's a perfectly ok name.

LookToTreblesGoingTreblesGone · 18/03/2021 22:38

I like the town of Ravello, it's very nice there. But it's not a name for a child. I agree with most others, it sounds like a product name.

JackieeWeaver · 18/03/2021 22:46

Ravello is an incredibly beautiful place to visit, and it's in Italy, if that helps at all Confused

xxhetty · 18/03/2021 22:48

Thankyou! It's well and truly off the list back to the drawing board! So hard to find a name we both agree on!
