Theodore or Cooper?

Torn between two names for our baby boy.
Theodore Alfred
or
Cooper Alfred

I love Theodore (we'd probably use Theo day to day) but it's such a popular name! I've got an unusual name and love the fact that I never get mixed up with anyone else and I never have to be known by my surname like some of my friends with more common names. Hence Cooper being thrown in the mix, but my husband isn't keen. Alfred is 100% his middle name after both our granddads.

Any preferences?

Theo is nice. Cooper is awful.

somethingischasingme · 17/03/2021 16:37

Agree with pp. Theo. 😁

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 17/03/2021 16:39

Theodore was our choice but we’ve got two DDs.

FeistySheep · 17/03/2021 16:40

Isn't Cooper a surname, not a first name? A bit like calling your child Potter or Poulter?
Theo is nice enough. I would say that if you never expect him to want to use Theodore, don't lumber him with it...

Sorry to be negative!

Ninkanink · 17/03/2021 16:43

Theodore is one of my favourite boy’s names. Cooper is horrible, unless you’re naming a dog. Cooper also doesn’t go nicely with Alfred at all.

MercyBodle · 17/03/2021 16:58

I much prefer Theodore over Cooper.

Kanaloa · 17/03/2021 17:14

I think Theodore is lovely. It is a bit popular but it’s still a really nice name. Cooper doesn’t have a nice sound in my opinion, although there are other nice surname type names I do like.

Watchingthetelly · 17/03/2021 17:50

Cooper just makes me think of an actual cooper - it’s a trade, not a first name. Theodore is nice but a bit long winded (I don’t like anything longer than two syllables though Grin )

TheFoz · 17/03/2021 17:52

Theo is lovely. Cooper is a dogs name, my dogs name!

partyatthepalace · 17/03/2021 18:27

Theodore - you could go for Teddy rather than Theo??

I actually think Cooper is quite cute - but ONLY in an American accent.

Tibtab · 17/03/2021 18:28

Cooper sounds American, depends how you feel about that 😂

lotsofdogshere · 17/03/2021 18:31

Theodore is lovely. We have a Teddy so I’m biased

clpsmum · 17/03/2021 18:35

Cooper

JaquelineBeanstalk · 17/03/2021 18:37

Theodore is lovely. Cooper is a dog's name.

KirstenBlest · 17/03/2021 18:46

I don't like Theodore at all but Cooper is only suitable as a surname.

DramaAlpaca · 17/03/2021 18:57

I don't like Theodore but it's much better than Cooper.

Biscuitsneeded · 17/03/2021 19:03

Theodore is a name. Cooper isn't, it's a job.

user1493494961 · 17/03/2021 19:09

Theo is lovely. Cooper is awful as a first name, a Cooper makes barrels.

Allgirlskidsanddogs · 17/03/2021 19:10

Much prefer Theodore. But you also need to consider his initials, T A ?

Trying to work out what’s wrong with the initials TA 😂
Oodilallygolly · 17/03/2021 19:15

Cooper is awful

Whatsyourflava · 17/03/2021 19:18

I like both

How about Chester, Caleb, Tristan, Hugo, Otto or Laurence

stuckinarutatwork · 17/03/2021 19:20

Cooper is a dog name. Sorry.

Allgirlskidsanddogs · 17/03/2021 19:20

Tibtab , nothing’s wrong with TA but it depends what comes after it TA? I wouldn’t want to be TAT or TAC for example.
