We have a little girl called Ella and due another girl soon. We really like the name Maya. What do you think? Do they go well together?

May-a or My-a
Either way, i think it's quite pretty and i they work quite well together even though they both end in "a"

Oh thank goodness, I thought you were going to name your child 'Sister'! Maya is a beautiful name!

Sistersister1980 · 17/03/2021 13:30

@emmathedilemma My-a

Lovely, both of them.

@MaMaD1990 ha, sorry for the confusion!

Both lovely names that sound great together

Also like Mia and Marnie and Martha and Maggie and Mabel

Lots of M names I love

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 17/03/2021 20:13

They are quite similar (2 syllables, ends in "ah") but not too much I think - and both are popular, pretty names that sound fine together imo.

partyatthepalace · 17/03/2021 20:58

They are a bit similar, but what puts me off Maya is the various pronunciations (May-ah, My-a, Mee-a)

Sistersister1980 · 23/03/2021 13:34

Ella and Ava - too close perhaps?

Nice name and they sound good together but like pp the various spellings and pronunciations put me off. For instance, I would be more likely to say may-a for that spelling. For the pronunciation you want I'd spell it mia

Stevearnottsbeard · 23/03/2021 14:08

Sorry meant mya 🙈

Sistersister1980 · 23/03/2021 14:29

@Stevearnottsbeard unfortunately I'm not a big fan of the spelling 'mya'.

Ella and Ava are slightly closer/more soundalike than Ella and Maya as both start with vowels- but either way, both are popular 2 syllable, vowel heavy names. So unless you want to go for something very different sounding to Ella- like May, Maeve, Verity etc (trying to think of popular names with a Y or V sound!), I'd just choose whichever you like best (both Ava and Maya are nice).

Stevearnottsbeard · 23/03/2021 19:25

That's fine, like I said it's a nice name but there will be a lot of how you spelling that... No it's pronounced... I have a very normal name but it is spelt slightly differently so for 30 odd years have always had to say it's... But spelt with a... Just as long as your prepared for that ☺️

Sistersister1980 · 23/03/2021 19:52

@Stevearnottsbeard yeah, it's tricky as I'd assume Maya was pronounced 'my-ah' and Mia was 'mee-ah', but you're totally right, I'd need to be ok with correcting people
