Middle name order?

Due a baby girl in May, and love the first name Olivia (yes, I know it's #1 🙈)

We have family names Margaret and Jean we'd like to include as middle names. Surname is McNeil. I can't decide which way round the middle names 'go' best, and would like an impartial opinion which is just about the names rather than knowing the family links / putting one 'first' etc.

Olivia Margaret Jean
Olivia Jean Margaret

All votes welcome! Thanks :)

I think Olivia Margaret Jean flows better, and with the surname added too.

I prefer Olivia Margaret Jean, initials then are OMJN.

Olivia Jean sounds like a redneck queen - a waitress in a diner or someone from Steel Magnolias - and OJMN as initials might then lead to OJ as a nickname.

Personally, I'm not wild about Jean but I imagine it's the name of one of your mothers, grannies or great-grannies and that you've diplomatically chosen one from each side.

Also, my experience of having 2 middle names is that the first one is used more. Lots of forms just don't have room for more than one middle name. So maybe think about whether you want her to be Olivia Margaret (Jean) or Olivia Jean (Margaret)

Agree, Olivia Margaret Jean flows best with your surname.

mamarella · 16/03/2021 12:36

Thanks all, that's pretty decisive!

@tarheelbaby Yes, they are family names so not looking for alternatives. And it's a good point that sometimes the order of middle names might give one a priority over the other - that's kind of why I'm trying to avoid the sentiment of that, (I might be emotionally bias! 😂) and just think about the flow of the names to make the decision.

Sorry to buck the trend but I prefer Olivia Jean Margaret McNeil as I like the alliteration of Margaret McNeil at the end.

KirstenBlest · 16/03/2021 14:25

@Champy87, that was my thought too, and Olivia Jean is nice if she ends up being one of many Olivia Ms

Beenabadday · 16/03/2021 16:48

Olivia Margaret Jean.
