Middle name for Annie?

We’ve just found out DC2 is a little girl. Her first name will be Annie after her grandmother who is sadly no longer with us, but middle name is up for debate!

I had originally thought Rose, which I do love but it’s the name of another family member and I think she should maybe have one name that’s just her own. So, the short list so far is...

Florence
Edith
Flora
Violet

I also like Iris and Ivy but I don’t think they work well with Annie.

Quite a type now I’ve written them out! Would love to hear opinions or other suggestions!

Annie Florence is quite nice. Violet is lovely but I don't think the sound flows well with Annie.
Annie Grace
Annie Jo
Annie Ray
Annie Elizabeth
Annie Rosabelle

My granny was Annie-Sophia. Love it!

Personally I think it sounds good with a single syllable second name:

Annie Jo
Annie Fleur
Annie Rose

My granny was Annie-Sophia. Love it!
Anna Sophia is lovely!

Love Annie as a nn, but prefer a full name for best - not that you are asking! - but I do think it flows better - Anna Elizabeth, Anna Grace, Anna Katharine, Anna Violet etc

We have a teenage Annie. She was named after my Granny who was always Annie, including on her birth certificate. Annie is a great name.

Her middle name is Rose. She loved the Alfie books by Shirley Hughes when wee as his wee sister is Annie Rose.

Our Annie is named after two family members and it has never bothered her at all.

I think it’s nice with something more unisex after it otherwise can sound a bit primsy

Annie Ray is nice or Annie James? Also like Annie Scout

I must admit that like pp I prefer Anna on the BC with the nn Annie, but I understand if it was your Grandmother's given name you might want to use Annie as is.

Of your choices Annie Florence sounds by far the nicest to me. Edith, Flora, Iris and Ivy don't flow very well with Annie imo and Violet has always looked too similar to violent for my taste (love Viola though).

I like pp's suggestion of Annie Josephine or Annie Sophia. If you wanted the Rose look then Rosalind or Rosamund would sound nice too. Madeleine, Charlotte or Julia/Juliet would also be pretty.

Starlitexpress · 12/03/2021 23:04

Anne Margaret?

Thedutchessofhastings · 12/03/2021 23:09

I also thought of Annie Rose from the Alfie books. I always thought that was a lovely name.

FuckyouBrennan · 12/03/2021 23:10

Annie Violet

Personally I prefer Anne as Annie sounds very nicknamey, and also not a fan of recycling "family" names, but if this works for you then great ! You probably should focus on names that start with a consonant though since your first ends with a vowel.

Annie Florence - doesn't flow so well together. I do like Annie Florentine though.

Annie Edith - the double "ee" sound doesn't really work for me.

Annie Flora - sounds okays ! I like Floriane better than Flora though.

Annie Violet - I actually don't like the name Violet but I do feel like it flows well with Annie.

Anne-Sophie is a classic in France (often shortened as Anne-So).
Annelise (or Annie Lise, or Anna Lisa, or Annie Louise)

It also depends if you plan on using both names, or just calling her Annie. If you're going to use both names then I'd favor a one-syllable name as otherwise it'd be too long.

Annie-Rae
Annie-Lou

Annie Florence and Annie Violet are both lovely.

I also love Edith and Flora but they don't flow as well with Annie.

Thank you all, I think it comes down to Florence or Violet though I might add Rose back in there because it does sound great and I love the Shirley Hughes books too!

Annie Sophia does sound really lovely too, but I know so many Sophia’s it doesn’t feel like the right one for me. Aside from Rose I think I prefer a longer name, it will be just a middle name and not double barrelled as someone asked. Though May does sound nice too actually 🤔 Maybe I’ll have to let DH have the final pick!

She will be just Annie, I know it’s not to everyone’s taste. Her namesake was an Anne but hated it so was Annie her whole life, I only knew her as an adult so it doesn’t seem too cutesy to me either and I want to feel like I’m giving her the same name, it would change too much if I was to give her a formal name too I think.

I know an Annie Sarah which I think is lovely.
From your list I would probably pick Annie Florence. But I would be wary of picking too “old” names together.

I know 3 Annie Roses!
I like all your options and I think Annie Iris also sounds lovely (I agree Annie Ivy doesn't work).
Annie Florence would probably be my favourite. I also like:
Annie Constance
Annie Beatrice
Annie Meredith
Annie Cordelia
Annie Catherine

Annie Lucille
Annie Simone
