I follow an influencer on Instagram. She named her little boy Rip.
What the actual?
She posted a photo of him with a sign 'hello my name is RIP'
What is wrong with people?! She's Australian and quite trendy but seriously.. whaaaaa?!

Apparently not, it was a family tradition that the men were nicknamed Rip.

Rip Torn was a fantastic actor (dead now - RIP)

Awful. Some parents seem to name their child with no notion that the child is a person who will be called that name for their whole life.

Honestly it was a genuine name not a nickname. So bizarre! When I first saw the photo I read it as RIP - rest in peace, with a photo of the baby and I felt beyond sick. Then realised it was his name.

It’s an old Dutch name.

I saw that photo and my first (awful) thought was that the baby was born sleeping, and it was saying RIP.

Whats the influencers nationality?

Its a very old fashion Fries/Dutch name. Probable more common now in the US than in the Netherlands because of early immigration. So my guess would be that she or the father has Dutch ancestry and its a family name.
