Am currently 32 weeks! We like a lot of girls names but we’re just not mad about any of them!

One I love but would never use because I’m not brave enough is Demelza! I saw a bit of the Poldark series and she seemed like a great character. No particular attachment to it other than I think it sounds quite cool! I’m sure not many will ageee Grin

Be brave, use Demelza! It's such a beautiful Cornish name and I love it.

As for the others on your list, all of them are very nice with the exception of Martha which is seriously dreary (sorry).

babynamelover · 11/03/2021 01:55

Use Demelza 😁

Fivemoreminutes1 · 11/03/2021 04:14

I like your list. Not too keen in Olive though and I think Olivia is overused.

Demelza could shorten to Demi

Hod19 · 11/03/2021 06:33

I love Martha, Clara and Grace. They were all on my list (had a boy).
Do you have any family middle names OP?
Two others I really like are Aubrey and Nell.

VenusClapTrap · 11/03/2021 08:51

Lydia or Demelza would be my choice out of those too.

I’m currently binge rewatching all the Poldark series and yes, she’s a great namesake.

mamablondie33 · 11/03/2021 09:25

Absolutely love Martha! This definitely gets my vote x

FayLivvie · 11/03/2021 10:43

I love Grace

KirstenBlest · 11/03/2021 12:44

Martha - ok, a bit frumpy
Eva - dislike
Lydia - Lyds? Lydie is nice as a nn
Clara- dislike
Ada- dislike
Grace - too popular
Olivia - too popular
Olive - dislike

Martha or Lydia

Ooh thanks everyone for the replies and suggestions!

@Awwlookatmybabyspider I hadn’t actually thought of Grace as a midde name! I think maybe because I love it so much as a first name but now I can see it would really work. Out of the first names you’ve suggested I also really like Sophie and Chloe. Today I’ve suggested Lydia Grace to DH which he says he likes Smile

To those encouraging using Demelza, I would love to but am thinking maybe as a middle name rather than first name? Only thing is obviously a lot of the names I like end in a sound and I wonder if that would be a bit much with both names ending in the same sound! @Porridgeoat hadn’t thought about Demi as nn though! I do like that!

Lots to think about. Thank you everyone! Xx

8.Martha - a bit dull and dowdy for me
3.Eva -classic, simple and very international
1.Lydia - elegant, classic and underused
4.Clara - lovely but a bit trendy now (prefer Lara or Cara)
2.Ada - (Lovelace - cool namesake) one of the few "old-lady" names I like as it has a nice sound
5.Grace - nice but a bit overused for me
6.Olivia/Olive - Olivia is lovely (classic and Shakespearean) although very popular, but Olive is more geek/hipster chic and not my taste
7.Demelza - too Poldark, but a fun middle name (especially for a simple, popular name like Grace)

Since many of your first name choices end in "a", I'd look at other endings for middles - like Sophie, Alice, Charlotte, Erin, Xanthe, Iris, Rosalind, Elizabeth, Isabel, Catherine, Juliet, Josephine, Madeleine, Faye, Esme, Sylvie, Eve, Tess, Lily etc, depending on how many syllables your first name choice and surname are.

DarcyJack · 11/03/2021 20:56

Lydia

CharlieRummer · 11/03/2021 21:15

For both our two girls, we read a few pages of the baby name books every night for weeks and we found it REALLY hard to find names we agreed on.

In the end, we both made a short list, and both times (we might have just been lucky) there was one name that was on both lists. Give it a go?

sammylilac · 11/03/2021 21:16

None sorry I find them slightly dull. What about Veda? Pronounced vay-da

Firebird83 · 11/03/2021 21:17

I love Demelza, Martha and Lydia.

SameToo · 11/03/2021 21:18

@sammylilac my favourite name! I wish I’d used it. But both fathers were Star Wars fans.

Marah is a lovely mane
