I'm now nearly 32 weeks due a little boy who will be boy number 3! We are really struggling with names.

Some names we like are

Artie
Max
Gus (hubby hates this 😩)
Archie
Teddy

We are particularly drawn to names ending in the 'ie' sound. We don't want a long name as middle name and surname are quite long.

Thoughts on above names and can you suggest anymore?

Love the short names, I’m looking for the same thing just now and failing miserably 😂 Think I’ve decided you just need to pick what you like best and ignore other people’s opinions on it.

Artie is nice
Someone I have on Facebook has an Arnie which is also cute
My number 1 name ever is Ari
Finn (love it sooo much but possibly becoming common and is already taken in my family)
Ray
Vinnie (Vin for short)
Rex
Jax
Jasper
Rudi

Love Arnie but hubby has vetoed as his friends dog is called this lol! I also really like Rex as does hubby...but all I think it people will think we copied Stacey Solomon 🙈

I actually really like all the names you suggested but we've ruled a lot out due to friends/family having same name.

Artie - great. Pls put Arthur on birth cert
Max - love it
Gus - no, rhymes with too many unpleasant words - pus, fuss, cuss
Archie - ok
Teddy - ok if a longer name is on birth cert
Rex - love it

partyatthepalace · 10/03/2021 23:22

Christy as nn for Christopher
Jonty for Jonathan
Sandy for Alexander
Robbie or Bobby for Robert
Mikey for Michael
Rory
Toby
Finlay
Seth
Joss
Guy

I like all your names, though prefer Artie and Teddie as nns.

Not keen on Rex

Nannyamc · 10/03/2021 23:25

I have 2 grandsons Max and Cameron ..everyone calls him Camy
Also Dean Sam and Eddy (short for Edward). JIM (Short for) james
.

Bimblybomeyelash · 10/03/2021 23:27

Albie or Bertie for Albert
Toby
Ferdie
Frankie
Jonty

Kaboomba · 10/03/2021 23:34

Love all these suggestions!!

We like nick names as their name rather than a different name on their birth certificate. So if we went Artie that's would would be on his birth certificate.

My list has grown considerably thank you!!

Would it not be better to have a full name on the BC just in case he doesn’t like having a nickname as a name as much as you do?

Brunt0n · 10/03/2021 23:42

Kit
Seb
Arlo
Monty
Jon

It's more we actually don't like the full name version of the nickname.

Artie - don't feel it is 'complete' myself, though it would be okay as a nickname, you say you don't like Arthur, so that rules it out for me.

Max - again, I like Max, but it still sounds like there should be more to it for those times when you want to tell them off

Gus (hubby hates this 😩) - shame, as that one does 'stand alone' better than the first two

Archie - bit over used around our way. Is okay, but I can't 'love it'

Teddy - definitely the worst by a long way. Can't understand why anyone would call their child a stuffed toy.

Kaboomba · 10/03/2021 23:59

So after suggestions and reading another thread, the top 3 that we can agree on are

Rex
Rufus
Artie

Alex
Alfie
Henry
Louis
Asher
Ashton
Roscoe
Rueben
Harry
Jay
Jack
James
Coby
Tommy

babynamelover · 11/03/2021 00:21

I like Rufus from those three.

My favourite boys name is Otis. I also like Forest, Moss, Orson & Jethro.

DarcyJack · 11/03/2021 00:23

Archer

Kanaloa · 11/03/2021 00:43

I love Max, I think it’s a totally lovely name. Archie, Teddy & Artie are ok but not my taste. I don’t like Rex or Rufus much at all. I like previous suggestions of Toby & Coby, they seem like they’d fit with your list. Although I’m not keen on Teddy I do like Theo. I also like -

Finn
Eli
Bobby
Freddie
Rocco
Leo

sarah13xx · 11/03/2021 07:40

The fact Stacey Solomon has used Rex is what’s putting me off it too but think it’s a lovely name and probably hardly anyone would even know her son’s name. Also waiting to see what Mrs Hinch uses so it doesn’t sound like I’ve copied hers 😂

I love the short nickname on the birth certificate, it’s really modern and cute. Kit is another nice one! I’m a teacher and there’s a Kit in my class. I’m having the same issue with the fact there’s a reason I can’t use every single name I think of or my partner isn’t keen on it 🤦🏼‍♀️

FamilyOfAliens · 11/03/2021 07:59

It's more we actually don't like the full name version of the nickname.

Oh I see. I was thinking that it might be nice to give him a choice in case he likes the full version of his name and not the nickname version.

I was called the nickname version of my name all through my childhood and adolescence but have chosen to go by the full version in adulthood as I much prefer it.

May2021Mummy · 11/03/2021 08:49

I really like Rex my friend has a little boy called Rex and he's the cutest

Good luck

Lemonlemon88 · 11/03/2021 08:51

Kit?

I don't understand this....
  1. Stacey Solomon wasn't the first person to use it.
  2. Most people won't realise that Stacey Solomon has a child called rex
  3. Almost every name will have been used by someone else previously

Is Stacey Solomon your sister or close friend or something??

mamablondie33 · 11/03/2021 09:23

Artie - Not sure as an actual name but can be short for Arthur.
Max - LOVE
Gus - I actually do like this!
Archie - yes I like. I know a very sweet little Archie.
Teddy- also like.

Other ideas:

Kit
Felix
Wilfred (Wilf)

mamablondie33 · 11/03/2021 09:24

@Anotherdayanotherdollar Fern Cotton also has a Rex, I really like it!

NewtoHolland · 11/03/2021 09:28

Love Rex!
What about Otis?
I prefer Angus to Gus, don't know if that would make a difference to your DH?
Toby? Has that ie sound
Remi.

tigerbread20 · 11/03/2021 09:30

We are going for Arnold, nn Arnie. It's dropped so far off the common name lists you might not have considered it?
