Baby names like Isla

DH likes Isla but I think it may be like the Claire of this generation (although it is pretty.)

So does anyone have any suggestions for similar names that aren’t quite as popular? We both like Isabella and Eleanor but there are girls with that name born to my best friend so wouldn’t feel totally comfortable about them. I love Poppy but he isn’t as keen.

Iona, Ysella (ee-sella), Lois, Ines, Estella, Oona, Cassia, Serena, Fenella, Christa, Christabel, Elowen - all fairly unusual

Stella, Clara, Zara, Sara, Lara, Annabel, Eloise - not unusual but no where near as popular as Isla, Iris, Isabel/la, Eleanor, Emilia, Mia etc (although there are a lot of short L names overall - Lola, Lily, Lila, Lyra etc so I would maybe avoid Lara for that reason, and maybe also Elowen and Eloise because she’d probably end up another Ellie)

I like Flora but DH doesn’t (I know as I suggested it for this one, who turned out to be a boy!)

Penelope is the name of his ex she is actually very nice but still.

Not as keen on Freya or Rosa ... I quite like rose but doesn’t go too well with our surname.

There’s loads of beautiful Scottish names out there. If that’s what you’re after with Isla.
Also, Isis is a beautiful name.

It can’t be ignored that it’s an extremist group, though. It’s like saying Adolf is a beautiful name!

I don’t think it’s the Scottish connection he likes. (More likely to be Isla fisher!)

Juliet, Arabella and Isolde are gorgeous, IMO. The only thing I worry about with Isolde is people pronouncing it I-Sold.

Isla is such a pretty name, that you don't necessarily need to rule it out because it's popular.
