Vinnie or Jenson?

Which name do you prefer, Vinnie (nickname Vin) or Jenson (nickname Jens)?

both names are really unusual here in Scotland - only 11 called Vinnie in the last year and 26 called Jenson

I love Vinnie, very cute.
Not as keen on Jenson but that's because it's a more popular name around here.

Nell96 · 09/03/2021 16:43

I dislike Jenson I'm afraid - it's not awful by any means, I just don't warm to it and I'm not sure why. Vinnie seems like a nn anyway. I'd go for Vincent and then shorten however you like. How about Leonard / Lenny? Similar kind of feel.

SoCrimeaRiver · 09/03/2021 16:52

I'd prefer Vincent, then he can be Vinnie if he chooses, or keep his Sunday name. Not keen on Jenson.

I think that seems to be problem with Jenson.. I can’t get anyone’s opinion on it who doesn’t know kids called Jenson. Whereas I like it because it doesn’t remind me of anyone. Both names might rise in popularity in Scotland in the next few years but it’s so hard to tell

Don’t think I like Vincent the same. I know someone with a dog called that 🙈 and I think it sounds too posh for us! Vinnie does kind of sound like a nickname though

Love Vincent. It seems more classic to me but still very cool.

Jenson is nice, I like that kind of style and my DS has that sort of surnamey name, I do like it.

But Vincent is a better all-rounder I think. Also know a Vincenzo nn Enzo which makes me wish I'd married an Italian

Thanks.. I don’t see us using Vincent, I think we’d probably just use Vinnie. Have a weird feeling that’s what Mrs Hinch will call hers 🙈

Jenson has been my favourite from the start but I think other people’s opinions on here based on how popular it seems to be elsewhere and how it can sometimes be seen as chavvy is putting me off.

Love the nickname Enzo!

Oh sorry I didn't read your PP properly!

I think then between Vinnie and Jenson I prefer Jenson. I'm in Scotland and don't know any! And don't worry about the chavvy thing - you can worry names are too posh, too chavvy, too common or whatever but ultimately you just have to like the name and think it's a good, solid name for someone to grow up with.

Yeah that’s what I thought! As long as it doesn’t become really popular over the next few years and become chavvy here 🙈 you take that risk with any name though I suppose! The Scotland name list for the previous year is usually released within the next week based on the last few years dates so desperately waiting to see what’s on from 2020

Jenson, there are 2 in my son's Primary school so it's not mega popular.

Is this in England? I really like Jenson, the only thing holding me back slightly is worrying it sounds a bit chavvy but I don’t think it can in Scotland where there are virtually none

My DS is called Vincent, I adore it.

micc · 09/03/2021 17:36

Love Vinnie, but I would go with Vincent and call him Vinnie and Vin for nn.

Cuppaza · 09/03/2021 17:41

Vinnie is lovely. Jenson is awful

emmathedilemma · 09/03/2021 17:48

I'm in Scotland and whilst I don't know any my gut feel for Jenson is chavy. Sorry.
I think Vinnie definitely needs to be Vincent "officially".

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 09/03/2021 18:12

Of the two, Jenson - it's very trendy here (though I understand it's not where you are) but has a nice enough sound. Vinnie is either a bit cutesy sounding or an Italian American mobster to me (I quite like Vincent though).

Viviennemary · 09/03/2021 18:14

Both pretty dire. But Jensen is better than Vinnie

user1493494961 · 09/03/2021 18:28

Have you got a third choice?

baubled · 09/03/2021 18:29

Ah I love Vinnie, if it was me I would go for that out of the two

Violetlavenders · 09/03/2021 18:36

I like Vincent but not Vinnie.

Jenson is ok but the ones I know are known as Jen, which sounds feminine to me.

My full list is: Vinnie Harris Arlo Freddie Reggie Jenson Roman Theo Rex Rowan Felix Ralph Jax Rafe Rudi Jasper

There’s just none I’m dead set on!

Oooh, I think they are both pretty grim OP. Jenson I think is deffo downmarket and will be in the same category as Ryan or Taylor in 5 years. Vinnie is also pretty thuggish, but if you call him Vincent it’s a bit better as at least is a name.

Enzo is quite fun though...

I don’t know if it will here unless Jenson majorly soars 200 places up the charts really quickly! Any of the above names from my previous comment?

Some lovely names

Rafe, Rowan, Jasper, Theo, Arlo, Freddie are all great, Ralph and Rudi also nice. Harris and Roman I think will date fast but they are Ok.

Vinnie and Reggie, and even more Jex, Rex and Jenson I would avoid because I think they either already are seen as downmarket (Jex and Jenson) or will be in the next couple years.

KirstenBlest · 09/03/2021 19:09

Wouldn't choose Vincent or Jenson. Vincent is a naughty boy's name and Jenson is downmarket.

Vinnie - dislike
Harris - not keen but it isn't awful
Arlo - dislike
Freddie - not keen
Reggie - ok but may be a bit downmarket
Jenson - dislike
Roman - dislike
Theo - dislike
Rex - ok, but probably more popular than you think
Rowan - ok, but all the Romans will make is a pita
Felix - not keen
Ralph - dislike
Jax - awful
Rafe - dislike
Rudi - ok
Jasper - ok

I know a Rudi (German chap) so I'd choose it because he's great, he sort of says ir Rrrrooodi.
