I like it. It doesn't conjure up mean girl to meConfused

RiaOverTheRainbow · 09/03/2021 14:48

I love it. Have you read the Tamora Pierce books? I adored them as a teenager.

dieblauenStrumpfhosen · 09/03/2021 15:06

I love it

partyatthepalace · 09/03/2021 15:22

It’s OK. Bit Meh. Slightly 80s/90s

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 09/03/2021 18:41

Alana is gorgeous - a beautiful sounding name imo. It's never been very popular in the UK, so I don't see how it could really date. The other spellings are more uncommon (so she will be more likely to have to spell her name) and seem more frilly to me.

Christmaspuddingsteaminghot · 09/03/2021 18:44

Love it. I’ve known one Alana and she was the kindest, sweetest young woman you could hope to meet.

CautiousBlonde · 09/03/2021 18:53

Love it. Was On my list 11 years ago 💚

Drunkenmonkey · 09/03/2021 23:06

It's my top girls name, I like it spelled Alannah.

DramaAlpaca · 09/03/2021 23:24

Is 'mean girl' name the female equivalent of a 'naughty boy' name? Confused

Anyway, Alannah is very nice, that spelling for me.

scalphelp · 09/03/2021 23:45

I don’t like the spelling alanna. It would definitely get pronounced al-Anna.

scalphelp · 09/03/2021 23:45

By some people that is

DariaMorgendorffer · 09/03/2021 23:50

Love it

Enko · 09/03/2021 23:59

love it but was dhs significant x so no go I prefer it spelled Alannah

Subordinateclause · 10/03/2021 00:35

Long or short a? Do you live somewhere where some people would pronounce one way and some the other and would this bother you?

WashableVelvet · 10/03/2021 06:40

It’s on our list atm. Close enough to Elena/Elara/Ella/Aurelia/Eleanor/etc, all these trendy vowelly names, to seem current. But actually a traditional Irish name so I’m thinking might date less.

jaundicedoutlook · 10/03/2021 08:17

It’s quite Alan-y. I’d put it in the same category as other girls’ names based on slightly naff boys’ names of yesteryear. See also:

(Sorry - made that last one up!)

Trisolaris · 10/03/2021 08:20

Alana is my favourite spelling. The other spellings look like unnecessary extra letters.

YoniAndGuy · 10/03/2021 08:24

No for me - the kind of name an 80s schoolgirl would think was cool. It’s in there with Kimberley, Roxanne and Kayleigh I’m afraid.

Eteri · 10/03/2021 08:33

Prefer the classic hebrew spelling of Ilana. The Alanna spin is very late 2000's Americanized and already a bit dated.

Nell96 · 10/03/2021 09:39

Not sure, has quite a 90s feel to me. Ilaria?

LizzieAnt · 10/03/2021 11:04

@Eteri

Prefer the classic hebrew spelling of Ilana. The Alanna spin is very late 2000's Americanized and already a bit dated.
The name is also thought to derive from the Irish endearment 'A leanbh', leanbh meaning child.
