Usually I seem to only hear Joshua/William/Theo and I have recently noticed lots of Roman's and Harper's.
Today I heard Ernest, Primrose and Inca!
What names do you hear shouted most often in the playground, and what are the most unusual names you have heard while there?

I was in the waiting room at the doctors a few years ago when twins Ocean and Harbour (girls) were called in for their jabs by the nurse.

Common names around here are Evie, Harry, Finley, Oliver, Ava.

DS (9) has an Audrey, Albert (not Bertie) and a Marjorie in his year.

Moonface123 · 09/03/2021 21:34

Beckham.
Endurance.

Pecano13 · 09/03/2021 21:38

I heard Ocean the other day, but pronounced "oh-see-an"

Also quite a few Bears around here apparently!

I once knew a family that named their daughter Maceyalbion - because mum liked the name Macey and dad loved Brighton&Hove Albion!

MySocalledLoaf · 09/03/2021 21:40

Ulysses (2), Africa (2, both white), Narel, Dioné, Ian, Amadeus.
All toddlers or younger, seen in local parks in last few months.

Swastika.

I mean, I know it's a symbol for peace that long pre-dates the Nazis. Still, it's an unusual choice.

17caterpillars1mouse · 09/03/2021 21:47

Alot of Freya's, Poppy's, Lily's and Archie's here

Dd has an Apollo in her class

BikeRunSki · 09/03/2021 21:52

I heard Ocean the other day, but pronounced "oh-see-an"

That could have been Oisin ?

Chunkymenrock · 09/03/2021 21:55

Agree with pp. Apostrophes aren't needed when pluralising names. Just stop! The most unusual I've come across is Bern. Lots of Rowans and Emilys here.

champagneplanet · 09/03/2021 21:57

DD1 Year 4 class is full of Maisie's, Isla's (some variations on the spelling), Sophie's and Jack's.

In DD2 nursery class the popular ones are Tilly, Harry and Poppy. There is also a Roman in there actually.

3peassuit · 09/03/2021 21:59

Tar, which I incorrectly thought was Tarquin. Turned out to be short for Tarzan.

OhGodNotThisAgain · 09/03/2021 22:02

I heard a Bruce getting shouted at in the playground a few weeks ago

Strongswans · 09/03/2021 22:08

Arley and a Fox. At ds's current senior school there is a girl called Feather.

funnyoldonion · 09/03/2021 22:09

Recently a girl called Pepper

Strongswans · 09/03/2021 22:09

And the most popular one seems to be Sophia, I know lots from baby to teenagers.

Lynora · 09/03/2021 22:11

Do you all live in all white areas? Around here you would hear Asian, African,Polish and all manner of names , not just English names.

Firebird83 · 10/03/2021 00:43

DS has a Peach in his class.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 10/03/2021 01:42

Just remebered, there was a Bruno at my nephews old nursery. I thought that was, adorable. Grin.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 10/03/2021 01:44

Oh I love Harbour for a girl

mamablondie33 · 10/03/2021 06:58

By playground I assume primary age?

Isla
Daisy
Olivia
Leo

Are by far the most popular I know of.

YoniAndGuy · 10/03/2021 08:27

A couple of years ago, but, ‘Moby’

Maybe his middle name was Richard too - I really hope so 😁

Toomuchtooyoung01 · 10/03/2021 11:37

This thread makes me wonder if I should reign in all the daft nicknames I have for my kids. It never occurred to me that someone might here me shout “Beemers!” across that playground and assume that my son’s actual name but now I wonder.

LadyCatStark · 10/03/2021 12:47

Around here it’s still all -y and -a names for girls and -y names for boys.

The most unusual I’ve heard lately is Brian for a 4 year old, Ronnie for a girl and Bayleigh also for a girl.

I also know someone who called their child Khaleesi, which as a massive Game of Thrones fan riles me as it’s not a name, it’s a title.

Ifixfastjets · 12/03/2021 06:14

Malcolm. I guess he would be 15 ish now
Ronnies are plentiful
Ds knows a conrad.

A couple of primary age alans
Primary age verity

Dollywilde · 12/03/2021 06:29

Ooh, my DD’s name has been listed upthread as an unusual one, I’m amazed, I don’t think it’s unusual at all! Underused maybe but there’s lots of well-known ones.

I met a baby Jackman the other day, had assumed that was the surname but was actually the first name, that surprised me.
