Usually I seem to only hear Joshua/William/Theo and I have recently noticed lots of Roman's and Harper's.
Today I heard Ernest, Primrose and Inca!
What names do you hear shouted most often in the playground, and what are the most unusual names you have heard while there?

Most often: Isla. There's always several Islas in every playground round here.

DragonPoop · 09/03/2021 14:28

Fistycuffs · 09/03/2021 14:30

Is Jonah unusual?

M0mmyneedswine · 09/03/2021 14:33

Most unusual was a girl is DD class called ocean-tigerlilly it soon got shortened at school when she had to learnt to spell it

Lenny86 · 09/03/2021 15:52

Lots of Noahs, Otis, Leo’s and Isaacs and for the girls all the vowel like names Ada, Eva etc. More unusual are Tulip, Wolf, Juniper and Ziggy

Tambourina · 09/03/2021 16:18

In the last couple of days I've heard Tulip, Saturday, Eden, Hunter, Cosmo, Trinity and Cee-Cee.

I’ve got teens, so don’t frequent playgrounds anymore, but I got chatting to a neighbour the other day who has a Constantine. Don’t think I’ve ever met one before.

When my DD (13) was little her toddler group had Ella, Bella, Isabella, Isabel, Annabelle, Ava, Eva, Evie and Ellie. It got very confusing at times! 😆

Mrsfrumble · 09/03/2021 17:57

Most unusual have been Obama (when we were living in the US) and Khaleesi (here in the UK).

WhateverHappenedToFayWray · 09/03/2021 18:13

Midnight

Chottie · 09/03/2021 18:16

Fox, Pearl, Olive, Bear, Carter (for a girl)

EssentialHummus · 09/03/2021 18:25

airport are they Russian / Eastern European? Konstantin / Kostya is a fairly standard name there.

Callixte · 09/03/2021 18:26

I heard someone yell for a "Kessler" recently, and a tiny girl appeared. I found it funny because I used to work for a big tech firm where almost all of the bigwigs were men and everyone called them by their last names and the CTO was "Kessler".

I have a niece called Ariadne, which someone mentioned upthread (her mother is Greek) and the little neighbour boys pronounce it "Arryandy" Smile.

AlohaMolly · 09/03/2021 18:40

About five years ago now I met a little girl Renesmê

AngelDelightUk · 09/03/2021 18:44

I heard a Carlton the other day while out for a walk with my DD.

At baby sensory, at the couple of times we actually managed to get there, we had a Rufus, twins called Mahogany and Magic, Bear, Litus (I’m assuming it’s spelt - pronounced lite us) and then Frank

Amdone123 · 09/03/2021 19:11

Talking to someone whose niece had a Roux. I thought at first, it would be spelt Roo ( short perhaps for Ruth ?), but, no, twas Roux. I said, ' Like a sauce??!' I couldn't help myself. At a party a few years ago, met a Maggie. I said how lovely, Margaret is a great name. Mother informed me it was short for Magnolia. My friend came across twins, Dolce and Gabbana in a soft play area. Jesus wept.

Orphlids · 09/03/2021 20:08

A few years ago, I heard a woman calling for her son, whose name was Tucker. I thought that if it was almost impossible for me to resist shouting, “Motherfucker!” them how would that kid fare at secondary school.

There was a Ringo at soft play recently.

But round this way, about 80% of boys seem to be named Alfie, and the girls are usually Isla. Although there are two Bluebells in my little town (one spelled Bleubell).

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 09/03/2021 20:15

We had a 'Neon' at school for a while...

MonaChopsis · 09/03/2021 20:30

I met a 3yr old Colin in the playground a couple of years ago and just about fell over backwards. Named after his grandad, but not a name I'd heard in the last 30 years!

Veterinari · 09/03/2021 20:32

There are a lot of unneeded apostrophes in this thread!

Mine would be Yoni - short for Yonathon (European heritage)
Nevaeh (religious parents) just reminds me of face cream
Mary - actually love this - very underused

Roselilly36 · 09/03/2021 20:37

My DS’ have finished education now, but some of the more unusual names I remember were, Chilli, Zero, Rainbow, Angel, Phoenix, Thor, Remy, Elise.

The most common names, were Amelia/Millie, Oliver, Joshua, Thomas, Oliver, Isabelle/Isabella, Sophie/Sophia, Emily so, so many Emily’s.

mogtheexcellent · 09/03/2021 20:37

Ian was the most memorable recently.

Toomuchtooyoung01 · 09/03/2021 20:59

Just remembered there being a little boy called Sullivan at a toddler group once too.

Ocean-Tia, never shortened.

Keith.

Two kids called Gary in the same class. I half wondered if they had the same father, also called Gary.

Kaiser.
