We don't know what we're having and will be keeping it a surprise, we both adore Loveday for a girl it's a special name to us and means a lot. However we are stuck for boys names that feel equally special, a few I like but don't have the YES factor are -
Etienne
Ezekiel
Griffin
Cassius
So if we love Loveday, what might we like for a boy? Any ideas?

OP, you’re right, Loveday isn’t for everyone. That’s partly what makes it so wonderful. It’s just so beautiful. That wonderful resonance of the ‘v’ is so pleasing to the ear, followed by the firmness of the ‘day’. And so lovely to have a name with such an interesting history and meaning. I’m always surprised it’s not more popular. I do hope you have a girl so you can use it - I feel quite jealous! Congratulations, and have fun naming your baby.

@AfterEightsBeforeEight Ian McShane was Lovejoy, not Loveday, no?

AfterEightsBeforeEight · 11/03/2021 16:32

Yes he was. So similar, it was my instant thought.

Really, OP just choose a name that you like.
It's the child/person that makes a name special, not the other way around.

Loveday is not my favourite name, but it's OK and if it has a meaning for you, then why not? It is all about peace and reconciliation, and those have to be very, very, very good things.
(And, while it's mostly survived only in Cornwall, in terms of language, it's good old Anglo-Saxon. so no difficulties in pronunciation etc.)

I very much like your suggestion of John for a boy. I've known several people with that name over the years, and quite a few of them were distinctly special.
