I’ve had the name Cornelia stuck in my head for the last few weeks and it’s becoming a favourite of mine. What do you think of Cornelia?

Sorry, but it just makes me think of corns on the feet.

Change just one letter though and you get Cordelia, which is so much nicer imo.

LilacSloth · 03/03/2021 22:00

I agree with pp, Cordelia is so much nicer. Corny/Neil as nicknames are not great.

springiscoming12 · 03/03/2021 22:03

Not the nicest, sorry OP. It just sounds quite harsh and I think she would get teased by other children

DragonPoop · 03/03/2021 22:08

Yeah I love Cordelia (it’s on my list for if we have a Dd in the future) but I really dislike Cornelia for some reason, although I can’t quite put my finger on why Hmm

Kiehl · 03/03/2021 22:13

Bloody awful. Think feet

Roszie · 03/03/2021 22:16

I think of eyes

Wannabangbang · 03/03/2021 22:20

Cordelia is much nicer and can be shortened to Delia

AccidentallyOnPurpose · 03/03/2021 22:29

I like it. I used to have a really good friend with that name. But then again, it's a real, normal name in my native language so I don't make any weird associations with it like feet and what not.

"Forrin" names that aren't mainstream or posh don't really do well here as posters aren't familiar with them so they'll make their own (often negative) associations.

I won't say what connotations Cordelia has in my own language.Grin

spaceghetto · 03/03/2021 22:37

I love it! It reminds me of the character from Santa Claus the movie.

user1471604848 · 03/03/2021 22:38

I much prefer Cordelia too.

It reminds me of Lady Cordelia Flyte from the book " Brideshead Revisited". My son is named after her brother in the book.

MrsBungle · 03/03/2021 22:41

I think Ecce Romani! Latin text book at school. Cornelia was a character (I think!). I quite like it!

partyatthepalace · 03/03/2021 22:52

Quite nice, but Cordelia is nicer

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 04/03/2021 01:20

It's makes me think of stinky feet.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 04/03/2021 02:23

Like pp, I struggle to get past the "Corn" part and think the Shakespearean Cordelia sounds much nicer, sorry.

toastofthetown · 04/03/2021 07:35

Interesting how people seem to prefer Cordelia. I find Cornelia to be softer and rolls off my tongue better.I don't think that the foot association would be a problem in real life. Amelia is the name of a medical condition and it's been one of the most popular names for years.

babynamelover · 04/03/2021 07:45

I prefer Nelia 😁.

SummaLuvin · 04/03/2021 09:05

Cornelia isn’t my favourite but Cordelia is down right ghastly.

Kiehl · 04/03/2021 10:37

Sorry both ghastly names

RuthW · 04/03/2021 12:19

I love Cordelia but not Cornelia.

3CCC · 04/03/2021 12:21

Camilla? Camellia?

Prefer Cordelia

JellyTeapot · 04/03/2021 12:23

@MrsBungle yes! Cornelia sedet sub arbore dum Flavia cantat.

I like Cornelia, it's a lovely classical name. It also makes me think of cornflowers and Cornelia from the Chalet School books!

Chilldonaldchill · 04/03/2021 14:33

Cordelia is wonderful.
I don't like Cornelia though.

notalwaysalondoner · 04/03/2021 14:46

I was about to say the same thing - Cordelia is on our list, but for some reason I can't put my finger on I don't like Cornelia (despite having a wonderful and lovely family friend called Cornelia).

MrsBungle · 04/03/2021 21:56

@JellyTeapot I loved the adventures of Cornelia and Flavia Grin

JustanotherTuesday · 04/03/2021 22:03

Sorry I don't like either but I think Camilla is pretty.
