Thoughts on Jupiter for a boy. Possible nicknames?

Not a fan at all I'm afraid

mildlymiffed · 03/03/2021 14:49

No.

Aquamarine1029 · 03/03/2021 14:49

I like loads and loads of different, unusual names, but Jupiter is awful.

TheySeeHerRowling · 03/03/2021 14:50

Better than Uranus, I suppose

Goawayquickly · 03/03/2021 14:52

I should hate it but actually I rather love it. He could call himself Peter if he hates it.
Jupiter, I'm becoming an old hippy i think.
Probably not a good idea really I guess in reality. Are you a rock star? If so go for it.

lemonsaretheonlyfruit · 03/03/2021 14:52

My immediate reaction is no. But then maybe I'm not with the masses. Honestly. I just think it sounds a little bit too try hard or out there or something (and I live in an area of London where I hear every 'different' kind of name there is).
Plus I do struggle to picture what shortened version would be. Ju? Jupes? Plus. (Once again I accept that maybe I'm a bit older now. My kids are teens) .. what about when he becomes an adult? Maybe lots of kids will be called planet names in the future and it will be the norm .. but I know if someone nee started at my organisation tomorrow everyone would be thinking WTF?

Aquamarine1029 · 03/03/2021 14:54

How about Orion? I know one and his nn is Ry (rye). Lovely man.

PattyPan · 03/03/2021 14:56

I’m not a fan. It’s a bit self-important!

Unicant · 03/03/2021 14:56

YES
I love it!
I love space themed names (I know its also a gods name)
Had Astrid and Celeste and Luna on our list for a girl.
I think its really fun. Just give a more traditional middle name he can use if he ends up being a more straightlaced type of person... but honestly I think usually parents who give their children out there names end up raising kids who are on board with that. And now days everyone seems to have quite out there names.. my sons class in school has an Ophelia, a Titus and an Augustus!

fabulousspider · 03/03/2021 14:57

It's kinda cute but the kid will be taken the mickey out of at school I reckon.

OldRailer · 03/03/2021 14:57

Yes to too self important!

GAW19 · 03/03/2021 14:58

Never thought of it for a name before but I love it! Grin

OldRailer · 03/03/2021 15:02

I prefer Apollo!

DuchessSilver · 03/03/2021 15:04

In terms of cool space planet name, I like it.
But in terms of Roman King of the Gods, it's a bit much.

Nope.

JemimaTiggywinkle · 03/03/2021 15:25

Why would you need a nickname when Jupiter is such a perfect name?

ivfbeenbusy · 03/03/2021 15:26

Bloody awful

Annebronte · 03/03/2021 15:31

There used to be an American teen detective series of novels and the leader was called Jupiter. They called him Jupe or Jupes. Can’t remember what it was called, which is bugging me now! It had Alfred Hitchcock in.

Annebronte · 03/03/2021 15:33

The Three Investigators!

Annebronte · 03/03/2021 15:34

Jupiter Jones!

nurseriess · 03/03/2021 15:34

Hahahaha this reminds me !!!!! When I was about 7 there was a boy in my year called ‘Jupiter’ ! Well for some unknown reason I thought that’s what his name was for about 2 years of primary school and I have no idea why anyway I called him that until I heard him called by his real name .... Raymond
How on Earth i got ‘Jupiter’ I’ll never know !

Pulledamonica · 03/03/2021 15:42

Just thinking of a grown ass man walking around the place like "hi, my name's jupiter" and people going "is it fuck"

I just think its a bizarre thing to inflict on a child. I can't imagine a lawyer or a politician or a doctor being called jupiter. It reminds me of pluto the dog...

MotherOfCrocodiles · 03/03/2021 15:45

Ah, loved the three investigators! Every time they got a reward for saving the day they put it in their college fund!

I like the name Jupiter!

RainingBatsAndFrogs · 03/03/2021 15:46

It will get shortened to Ju / Jew at school.
