1 Which do you prefer?

  1. Does Lily or Ella work as nn for Elizabeth?
  1. Does Lily or Ella work with sibling Emily or too similar?

Lily and Emily are too similar but yes both Ella and Lilly are nn for Elizabeth

  1. I much prefer Lily
  2. Potentially, but I would personally find it a bit odd if you only intend to call her Lily or Ella. They are both fine as stand alone names. I think it would be quite annoying for the child/adult.
  3. No, I don't think either go with Emily. Lily in particular - it's almost the same name! Ella is a better match, but I would avoid the same initial ideally.

Lily.

Ella & Elle make me think of "She/Her"

Lilliana
Eliana

I prefer Lily but it's too similar to Emily for a sibling name.

I think both Lily & Ella are too similar sounding to Emily.

Having the same first initial can cause a few problems with post too!

I really dislike Ella so Lily gets my vote

PaleFox · 28/02/2021 14:46

I prefer Lily but I think both are too similar to Emily.

Ianrankinfan · 28/02/2021 14:51

I love Lily

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 28/02/2021 14:52

Both are too similar to Emily.

ThreeTwoOneBlastOff · 28/02/2021 15:09

Both are too similar to Emily. I don’t like Ella it’s very dull.

zafferana · 28/02/2021 15:33

Ella - done to death 10-15 years ago.

Lily - also v.popular round where I live.

Ella too similar to Emily.

Elizabeth is nice and very classic. She'll probably end up as Liz or Lizzie though as she gets older. School friends have a habit of re-naming in teen years IME.

partyatthepalace · 28/02/2021 15:34

Prefer Ella
Either works as a nn for Elizabeth
Both a bit similar to Emily but Ella better

I would probably think again to find something less similar to Emily - eg Clara, Rosalind, Iris, Jasmine, Madeleine, Anna etc

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 01/03/2021 00:25

I think Ella would be okay with Emily (although both start with the same initial, the ending sounds and number of syllables make them fairly distinguishable) .

While Ella is a name in it's own right, it could be a nn for other El - names including Elizabeth or ones that end in -ella like Gabriella, Arabella etc.

Although I have heard Lily as a nn for Elizabeth, Lily is too much with Emily imo.

Ellbell24 · 03/03/2021 01:20

Even though my name is Ella, I'd go for Ella just as I think the two same initials is super cute! X
