Husband and I disagreeing on which is best.
Have name changed to actually include our last name.
Edmund Wilfred Lyons
Edgar Wilfred Lyons
Edwin Wilfred Lyons

During discussion con of Edmund possibly not as snappy to shout across a playground, con of Edgar (which is a pro to the other parent) is association with the horror writer, con of Edwin is possibly being called Edwina teasingly.

Not sure whether to abandon the Eds totally given we can’t decide 😫

I love Edmund. I prefer Edwin to Edgar.

I work with several Edmunds, have never encountered an Edwin or an Edgar.

toastofthetown · 01/03/2021 16:04

I love Edmund. The ‘n’ breaks up the ‘d’ sounds so it flows well. I dislike Edgar; it sounds harsh to me and Edwin sounds rather insipid. Other posters have suggested Edward, but I find it a very clunky sounding name.

RuthW · 01/03/2021 17:37

Edwin is my fav name ever.

Fembot123 · 01/03/2021 17:38

The all sound like WW1 poets to me, but if you must please any but Edgar.

sunflowertulip · 01/03/2021 17:43

I don't like any particularly, but Edmund is the least bad. I really like Ed/Edward though.

Kanaloa · 03/03/2021 21:14

I would go with Edmund. Really don’t like Edwin or Edgar.

Calmondeck · 03/03/2021 21:36

I like all three, but if I had to be pushed would choose Edmund. I always think of Edmund Hillary, so prepare yourself for an adventurous mountain climber!

LivLavender · 03/03/2021 23:08

I love both Edgar and Edmund! I think I like the first one the best.

tararabumdeay · 03/03/2021 23:20

Blood Brothers as OP suggested for Ed(ward)

Gloucester's sons - Edgar/Poor Tom the good, and Edmund the bastard.

Whichever, none are the terrors of the earth - apart from Edward's mummy and Edmund who is a bastard in more ways than one.

Missing the theatre me!

teachermummy1 · 03/03/2021 23:22

They're all horrible and outdated.
Edgar at a push, Edward is much better

emilyplums · 03/03/2021 23:29

I think Edgar is the best, but I think they're all wonderful.
Don't go for Edward, very boring and overdone - these options are far better without being weird.
I think if I had to put them in order it would be Edgar, Edmund, Edwin ❤️
None of them have obvious negative connotations in my mind, and as for Edgar Allen Poe, that's a very cool association :-)
Let us know which you choose!

VienneseWhirligig · 03/03/2021 23:31

Probably outing but I used to work with a guy called Edmund who had siblings Edgar, Edward, Edwina and Edith. All known as Ed. Personally I think Edmund is the nicest from the three you suggested, but don't be like Ed's parents and continue the theme!

Ikeameatballs · 03/03/2021 23:31

I love Edwin but think that Edmund Wilfred Lyons sounds better. It’s the “..win” followed by “Wilf..” that sounds wrong IMO.

Anystarinthesky · 03/03/2021 23:33

I like Edmund the most.

DramaAlpaca · 03/03/2021 23:34

Edmund is by far the nicest of the three.

Edgar has to be one of the ugliest names ever to be inflicted on a child, and Edwin is one of the whiniest names ever.
