Testing names out at places

So I know there used to be the thing about testing out reactions to names by giving that name if you went to places like Starbucks. Has anyone tried it?

I had to take part in a zoom meeting the other day. I knew it was something where my name didn't matter and there wasn't going to be a follow up so I changed my Zoom ID to the name I really like.

Upshot was - everyone knew how to pronounce it and lots of people commented on how lovely my name was, so I think this has made my mind up!

Name is Xanthe by the way :)

Xanthe is a lovely name. I can't personally think of anything negative linked to that.

Great!

That is a brilliant idea! Like you said, it needs to be occasions where giving a false name doesn't matter (which probably doesn't come along everyday, but when it does...)

Love Xanthe btw. Did everyone say Zan -thee though or have you had the odd Zan-thay?

Hilochickalo · 26/02/2021 20:32

I wouldn't know how to pronounce it from the spelling necessarily.. is it 'Zan-the'?

olderthanyouthink · 26/02/2021 20:35

I use my real name in Starbuck to see what comes out the other end, like Chinese whispers.

Maybe I should get DP to test drive the boy name we have picked because is "unique" (family surname)

I did a one off Zoom lecture thing so it’s ideal for testing out.

Everyone said Zanthee

The staff at Starbucks look dumbstruck when my sons girlfriend says her name, it is 17 letters long Grin

JanFebAnyMonth · 26/02/2021 21:38

I do like it and know how to pronounce but I'd imagine there's a fair few people who'd try saying something like "Exe-Annth", I'm afraid. Depends if you can cope with that.

BikeRunSki · 26/02/2021 21:39

I haven’t been to Starbucks for about a year. I used to tell them I was called Stephen. When they looked at me funny I’d say “with a Ph”. (I’m female).

Go for it! It's unusual but beautiful.
