lily and louis both lovely (though I like lilli)

PickettWhiteFences · 24/02/2021 21:38

Freya - ok
Alma - I just see Alma from Coronation Street but then I am of a certain age!
Maisie - ok
Charlotte - ok
Harriet - love this
Elisa - not keen but I like Elise
Jasmine - it seems a bit dated these days, all those colour names that did the rounds in the 1990s / 2000s.
Eva - I thought it was beautiful when my DD went to school with an Eva 10-15yrs ago but too overused these days
Anna - quite like, its a classic
Maya - love
Iris - ok
Tamsin - reallylike
Maeve - lovely
Lily - done to death for 20 odd years
Fern - beautiful
Elodie - lovely
Diana - I would think you were a Lady Di fan, not thats a bad thing though
Amelia - overused

Toby - love, I had a cat as a kid called Toby as a kid
Charles - ok
George - ok
Edward- quite like but dont really like Eddie or Teddy
Arthur - not keen
Louis - lovely
Noah - nice but overused
James - nice
Isaac - its alright

TempsPerdu · 24/02/2021 23:04

My girls’ picks would be Iris, Fern and Harriet. Especially love Iris, but it’s definitely ‘having a moment’ right now and I think it’s becoming too popular for my taste.

Isaac definitely the nicest of your boys’ choices IMO, and the only one that doesn’t strike me as being very middle of the road/dull.

Hoowhoowho · 24/02/2021 23:19

Freya- fine but dated
Alma- fine but getting trendy
Maisie- nice
Charlotte- classic, can’t go wrong but popular
Harriet- on trend but classic
Elisa- fine, not overused
Jasmine- Disney princess
Eva- no. Will get lost among the 6 million Eve variations
Anna- classic, on trend
Maya- nice but very popular if you include all spellings
Iris- nice but trendy
Tamsin- ok not well used
Maeve- my favourite
Lily- no, overused and dated
Fern- getting popular but fine
Elodie- nice but overused
Diana- unusual these days
Amelia- see Lily

Boys:
Toby- dog’s name
Charles- fine nondescript
George- as Charles
Edward- as Charles
Arthur- super popular but I like it
Louis- also very popular but fine
Noah- no see Lily
James- classic like Charlotte
Isaac- nice

Fozzleyplum · 24/02/2021 23:20

Anna/Diana/ Charlotte
James/ Charles

All lovely names imo. Not keen on any of the others.

Squeakerfoot · 24/02/2021 23:23

I like Charlotte, Harriet, Elisa, Maya, Elodie
and Toby, George and Arthur.

DarcyJack · 24/02/2021 23:36

Harriet and Arthur or Fern and Louis ( but only if pronounced Lewis rather than Looie)

EugenesAxe · 24/02/2021 23:43

I like Charlotte, Harriet and Elisa best of the girls' names. I would add Talitha and Natalya.

I like all your boys names except Toby and Noah. I also like Edmund.

SarahLox77 · 24/02/2021 23:45

danascully96 · 25/02/2021 07:47

Freya - great namesake and striking, but not my fav sound
Alma - frumpy
Maisie - too cutesy
Charlotte - SATC + lovely, slightly stiff. Might I recommend Caroline too?
Harriet - harry, so no
Elisa - ok, prefer Elise
Jasmine - pretty, don’t like Jazz as a nn
Eva - nice, but my mind hasn’t yet shaken the Hitler connection. There’s so many girls name Eva, it’s bound to develop a shape of its own.
Anna - pretty and international, slightly nasally
Maya - pretty, but pronunciation issues
Iris - unfortunate rhymes, but fresh
Tamsin - no, too many tampon jokes
Maeve - BA like Freya and fine sound
Lily - love!! Also, love Rose 🌹
Fern - no, we are under a generational spell, but this name will not be a classic
Elodie - Melody without the E, so no
Diana - LOVE ❤️ Also, huge fan of Julia!
Amelia - cool namesake, but the medical term grosses me out

Toby - drippy
Charles - Love the name Charlie
George - Great, if not stodgy, but hate nn Georgie
Edward - bit dweeby, but they vampire connection has made me view it in a handsome light
Arthur - Big no. Stodgy and don’t like the “Art” sound
Louis - nice, if Lou-ee pronunciation, but unfortunate rhymes though

Noah - no, he’s not that wise in the Bible either
James - handsome classic, but so butler-sequel sounding sometimes, so Jamie’s a nice nn
Isaac - no, not an appealing sound

Muskox · 25/02/2021 07:51

Girls - Iris, Anna
Boys - Toby, Edward

BallsToYouSue · 25/02/2021 10:48

Fern & Louis

Lalliella · 26/02/2021 00:21

I love Elodie! Is this for twins? Louis would complement and follow a French theme. You’ve got some great choices in there OP. Just not Alma (was my friend’s mum - lovely lady but a tad podgy and frumpy)

Lalliella · 26/02/2021 00:23

Elodie - Melody without the E, so no It’s a beautiful French name you numpty!

sorryforswearing · 26/02/2021 00:36

Jasmine and Anna equally
Louis

LoveFall · 26/02/2021 00:40

Tamsin and Isaac

SleepingStandingUp · 26/02/2021 00:48

Freya - love it but increasingly popular if that bothers you
Alma - old lady off Citroen. No
Maisie- ok
Charlotte - always a solid classic with scope for varied nn
Harriet - cute
Elisa - no
Jasmine - the cooler end of Princess
Eva - no too popular
Anna - bland
Maya - too much contention over pronunciation
Iris - lovely
Tamsin - too much contention over pronunciation and spelling
Maeve - old lady. No
Lily - lovely but prefer Lilith or Liliana
Fern - meh
Elodie - missing an M
Diana - middle aged woman. No.
Amelia - too popular

Boys:
Toby - I'd go Tobias and shorten. Love it
Charles - soon to be king, no
George - ok
Edward - middle aged accountant. No
Arthur - meh
Louis - ok
Noah- love
James - solid classic I guess
Isaac - nice

I'd go Iris and Noah

Rubybluesy · 26/02/2021 00:53

Maisie or Maeve and Noah

iceicesunsun · 26/02/2021 01:20

Harriet and Edward

danascully96 · 26/02/2021 08:14

@Lalliella It may be French, but you cannot objectively say it's beautiful on that basis alone. Elodie still sounds like Melody without the "E" to my English-speaking ears, so I understandably find it incomplete despite how well-established it may be in other languages. When prompted by an opinion forum, I'm not going to pretend like I find a name beautiful simply because it exists in another language? Now, I won't go overboard in my insults, but I will share my honest reaction given my linguistic background, which might be pertinent. I'd want to know how my potential baby name genuinely sounds to another culture. Frankly, it's patronizing to other cultures for you to label all their names beautiful because you've placed them on a pedestal as though they can't be treated with some semblance of normalcy.

But I don't want to derail the thread, so that's all I'll say.

pilates · 26/02/2021 08:21

I like them all except Diana, Maisie, Freya, Toby and Noah.
