What do you think of Misty for a little girl?

@MaryBoBary

I think of a cat, definitely not a human.

But if there was a person called Misty in front of you?

I think the name puts pressure on the child to be non conformist, a bit out there etc. I wouldn't like it as my name, put it that way.

I don't agree with the posters saying someone wouldn't get a job over it though, that's ridiculous.

It’s lovely. My friend has a little Misty

Well it would be nice as a name for a porn star or a pony (or a pony porn star?) but not a person. Tis downmarket with bells on.

If you really want it, I would make it a nn for Melissa or Melinda or something, so she can change it if she wants.

I'm not saying a qualified person wouldn't get a job because of their name. I'm saying that people do make associations with certain names, and that will feed into various prejudices.

For instance, there is plenty of evidence to show that people who have traditionally 'black' or 'foreign' names on their CVs are less likely to be called for interviews. Should it be that way? Of course not. Does it happen? Yes. Does it mean that no one with a 'foreign' name gets employed? No.

I just can't see why giving someone a name that people on here have associated with strippers and pets would not also similarly feed into certain prejudices and make it less likely for their CV to be at the top of the pile.

Now, let's face it, if you can afford to give your child a good education and ensure they get into a top university, fine, call your kid whatever. They'll be okay regardless.

But it's no point pretending that society is perfect and names don't matter.

I think it's lovely! It does make me think of Pokemon but that isn't a bad thing!

You're not naming a little girl though, you're naming an adult woman.

The Pokémon thing is an issue for me because the girls like Misty are sexualized teenagers.
There are a lot of images of Misty that I wouldn't want a dc seeing that come up in a quick google search of her name.

Misty - sister for Foggy, Damp and |Blowy. Great idea!

What is she marries someone with a surname that's also a noun. It would be a no from me.

Also, I know it's not a terribly nice thing to say but to me the name sounds very common and as others had said, it's a stripper name

She'll be open to a load of damp jokes as a teen. I wouldn't want it as my name.

I think some of these more unusual names do require you to look/be a certain way in order to pull them off as an adult. I have a name that's very feminine and delicate-sounding, and while it's a pretty name, it doesn't suit me at all now that I'm a dumpy middle-aged civil servant. With a name like Misty, you'd have to grow up to be all willowy and ethereal and have big, beautiful eyes for it to work on you. How confident are you that she would turn out that way?

Very pretty name but just maybe not for a child.
