Méabh....although I much prefer it spelt Maebh

WonkyCactus · 18/02/2021 22:29

Méabh

PainterInPeril · 18/02/2021 22:30

Prefer the second name but spelt Maeve. Beautiful name!

Bluenightowl · 18/02/2021 22:31

Neither but at a push Maeve.

KirstenBlest · 18/02/2021 22:31

Úna

JaquelineBeanstalk · 18/02/2021 22:32

Nobody will be able to spell Meabh!

My niece is medbh and has had this all her life. Lovely name, but be prepared.

CattyBoomBoom · 18/02/2021 22:38

Meabh (or Meadhbh)

Merename · 18/02/2021 22:40

Love both!

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 18/02/2021 22:43

Oonagh is okay, but Meabh is just gorgeous imo (but if you aren't living in Rep of Ireland or N. Ireland, I'd spell it Maeve as she could find it annoying to always have to spell her name).

Synchrony · 18/02/2021 23:27

Oonagh.

I don't understand why Meabh has become so popular, it sounds unfinished to me. Like it's short for Mavis or something.

partyatthepalace · 18/02/2021 23:43

Love Oona, spelt like that. Seriously underused,

Don’t like Maeve, reminds me of mauve I think. But if I was going to use it I’d spell it like this unless I lived in Ireland, otherwise it’ll just be a pain for her.

CustardyCreams · 19/02/2021 00:53

Oh god don’t call your kid Meeb.

DramaAlpaca · 19/02/2021 00:59

Maeve, that spelling for preference.

You've got a traditional spelling of Méabh there, but an anglicised version of Úna.

Úna is way nicer than Oonagh, but it's dated in Ireland. All the ones I know are in their 50s.

TheCraicDealer · 19/02/2021 01:07

I don't like the Oonagh or Oona spellings. The "Ooooo" written down makes me think of Kenneth Williams. Una is the better option if you like the sound of the name.

Meabh/Maebh is fine. Bit meh. I know of quite a few in their teens so I've maybe just heard it too much.

MariLwyd · 19/02/2021 01:10

Oonagh was always top on my list if I’d ever had a girl

SmeleanorSmellstrop · 19/02/2021 04:23

Maeve (spelt like this if outside Ireland).

Oonagh looks odd. I too thought it was Una. Which I would consider fine but nothing special.

Lulu1919 · 19/02/2021 04:54

Is it ooooonarrr ?
The other is such a tricky spelling shell have years of it being spent and pronounced wrong

grapefruitish · 19/02/2021 04:58

Came on to find out how to pronounce the second name! Maeve is lovely, I had no idea about this Irish name/spelling. I like both names.

ILoveStickers · 19/02/2021 06:19

Love Méabh and Úna / Oona. Not a fan of extra GH spellings, myself.

CottonSock · 19/02/2021 07:08

Would not know how to say either of them.

vampirethriller · 19/02/2021 07:14

I love Oonagh.

UglyHoose · 19/02/2021 07:26

YY to if you're outside Ireland then she will spend her life spelling / correcting pronunciation of her name.

Peachbubble · 19/02/2021 07:58

Maeve

BatleyTownswomensGuild · 19/02/2021 08:23

Have no idea how to pronounce Meabh but odds on it's nicer than Oonagh, which I think is less a name and more a random collection of sounds....

BigusBumus · 19/02/2021 08:29

Una makes me think of Una Stubbs which was pronounced "You-na", not "Oo-na" which is what would happen if you used Úna I think.
