Interested to hear what people think of the name Octavia for a girl please?
Baby is due in August and we also got married in August so the eighth has significance for us, I'm really warming towards it.
I know it is a Skoda 😂 but that doesn't bother me too much!

it iks also the name of renowned social reformer

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Octavia_Hill

it's ok- would you shorten it at all? what to?

TwirpingBird · 17/02/2021 14:50

It makes me think if a marvel character ..... I think it's a bit much. Maybe just not my taste though.

luluorange · 17/02/2021 14:51

Ooh thank you @JackieweaverhasALLtheauthority
Love the username!
Thinking Tava or Taya but I guess a nn might just come naturally

I like it - it’s on my list too!

Bettyboop3 · 17/02/2021 15:00

I have always loved the name, i believe it was the name of a book i read when i was much younger. However my dd is glad my dh wouldn't hear of her being named it 🥴

Quercus3 · 17/02/2021 15:01

I love it!

DreamingInColours · 17/02/2021 15:04

Does the number 8 hold any significance for you ?
Personally I find the name too fussy but can see the appeal.

CattyCactus · 17/02/2021 15:04

I think it’s fabulous.
Nn could be Tavi or Tavia.
But as you said, something else might organically develop, or nothing. As Octavia is such a lovely name by itself.

luluorange · 17/02/2021 15:07

@DreamingInColours yes baby is due in August and we married in August 😊 I believe 8 is very lucky in Chinese cultures aswell

I've got an Octavia! Born 8/8/8. We would have called her Octavia anyway though regardless of birthday.

luluorange · 17/02/2021 15:16

@Kendodd how lovely! 💕 that's our wedding anniversary but different year.

Does her name get shortened at all?
I've never heard of anyone with the name except Octavia Spencer

OP posts:
Kendodd · 17/02/2021 15:19

Tavy by some of her friends, but mostly Octavia by us.
It was the day the Beijing Olympics started.

luluorange · 17/02/2021 15:22

@Kendodd that's really cool! Thank you for sharing 😊

I love the name and also the nn . Cool!

oldperson1 · 17/02/2021 15:43

Love it always been one of my favorites

Kendodd · 17/02/2021 15:50

It is rather outing though isn't it. Hopefully the thread won't be too busy Smile

AudacityOfHope · 17/02/2021 16:02

Lovely Smile

bootlebum · 17/02/2021 16:07

I really, really love it

luluorange · 17/02/2021 16:08

@Kendodd yes potentially, we may need a name change after this or could ask MN to remove if concerned

CharlieBoo · 17/02/2021 17:36

Not a fan at all .. it’s just too much

Timpeall · 17/02/2021 17:41

Reminds me of Octavia Butler and Octavia Spencer.

It's quite a big name. Not sure I love it. But I don't hate it. I do really like Tavi for short.

Timpeall · 17/02/2021 17:43

Octavia being born on 8/8/8 is pretty cool though.

KellyMarieTunstall2 · 17/02/2021 17:46

It's gorgeous! Love it.

Ulelia · 17/02/2021 17:49

Quite common where I live (Latin-language speaking). Girls tend to shorten it to Tavie (Tay-vi) or Tavia.

gottakeeponmovin · 17/02/2021 17:49

I always think it's one of those names that people use when they are trying to appear posh - but aren't
