Hipster names

I keep seeing references to names being ‘hipster’ on here so just out of curiosity what would you say are hipster names of 2020/21?

It seems I’m quite partial to a hipster name judging by some of the comments on MNGrin. So would be helpful for ideas too!

The Urban Dictionary definition: "Hipsters are a subculture of men and women typically in their 20s and 30s that value independent thinking, counter-culture, progressive politics, an appreciation of art and indie-rock, creativity, intelligence, and witty banter."

Sorry, that was for @LolaSmiles.

That's interesting.
It's typically used slightly pejoratively in my area to refer to those who want to draw attention to the fact that they are so outside the mainstream.

To look at that urban dictionary definition, someone with those interests wouldn't have a particular name in my area, but if someone was big into alerting everyone to the fact that they don't do mainstream or said things like 'oh just this nice indie folk fusion band, you probably wouldn't have heard of them', then that would be branded hipster because it's like they're trying to prove they're different.

It's funny how slang words evolve in different areas Lola!

I remember when I was in Northern Ireland years ago, teenagers used the word "groovy" to mean uncool, frumpy, 'lame'! Like "oh look at those groovy shoes, who'd wear them"? I never heard it used that way anywhere else, just in one town in NI!

I thought hipsters went for 'old people' names like Audrey or Ethel or Arthur etc.

You're right. It's fascinating.
I think that's why I found it unusual to hear someone ask about hipster names because round here that would seem quite try hard.

Groovy in that sense is something I've never come across either.

We’re in east london and the “hipster” parents seem to go for boys names for girls (things like Leonard for a girl), nature names like Tulip, Juniper, Wolf, Fox and Forest....old lady names like Pearl and Edie and then everybody at once decided Otis was a really great name....maybe because of the TV show Sex Education....and then there are the names like Early, Ace and Sunday
