Middle name for Forest?

mamah2019 · 15/02/2021 21:28

Says it all in the title really.

I have an idea of what I'd like to go for but I want to make sure I've looked at all options before locking a middle name in. I would love to hear some other people's suggestions please.

It's for a little boy :)

Thank you!

Oh come off it. If you're going to call your kid Forest then you need to expect the associations that go with it.
Same as if you call your kid 'Tuesday' or 'Sunday'.
They are nice names but obviously have sayings, connotations connected to them.

Translation: They deserved to be bullied for not being conservative enough for my tastes.

gigity · 18/02/2021 17:14

Forrest and Forest ARE real normal names though.

Exactly it's really not that unusual in America for example & there's quite a few notable ones in Wiki. It's 2021 we live in a global world!

Why do people feel so threatened by it?

Beats me.

I've just looked up the name as a first name on the historical records on Findmypast.

The first reference I can find in England for Forrest as a first name is 1577. For Forest its 1553. Which is pretty much as you find records going back so the name is likely to predate that by some way.

Its more 'traditional' than a lot of so called traditional names!!!

Obviously people have been laughing at the thousands of English people named Forest/Forrest for at least 468 years.

Or it could be that some people are completely bloody ignorant.

mamah2019 · 18/02/2021 20:11

@RedToothBrush oh wow that's so cool! Thank you for looking that up! X

Forest Harrison
Forest Theodore

I like it, kind of just rolls nicely off the tongue and has a real classic feel (even though it isn't a traditional/classic name, it feels like it ought to be!)

Congratulations on your son OP 💐

It is interesting to see what names have done over the centuries.

Contrast with the following from the top 100 boys names from last year. The first reference i can find for Arlo is 1790. Oakley seems to appear in Wales for the first time in 1660. Jaxon maybe surprisingly comes up in 1664. Grayson makes a first appearance in 1744. Jayden pops up in 1976.

They are nice names but obviously have sayings, connotations connected to them.

And someone is going to take it upon his or her rude self to state the obvious...

Why would a parent consider pandering to the rudeness?

And surely sticking to the same old boring assortment of names only encourages people to remain ignorant of the big wide world beyond their shores?

That's fascinating. A kick in the teeth to the rude posters on MN who always say 'you can't use that name, it's made up' - the idiots don't realise that ALL names were made up at some point in history.

Hope little Forest is well, OP.

HauntedPencil · 18/02/2021 21:58

What always amuses me on the baby name Judgy thread is Jayden being a variant of Jadon (the biblical name "he will judge")

No one ever bats an eyelid once the baby is named. I liked Forest Alexander!

HauntedPencil · 18/02/2021 22:00

I can't think of any negative connotations for Forest?

Maybe if you use "Axe-Murderer" that might hold?

Coronateachingagain · 18/02/2021 22:07

Master
Minster
Marlon

I have a Forest - teenager. He loves his name. He has a traditional middle name starting with F (after his great grandad). He does get a bit of run forest run but isn't bothered. Only time he didn't like it was about age 5 when the word forest came up in stories a bit.

As a teacher, the worst 'bullying' over a name I have known was a very troubled little boy named Henry when the horrid Henry books were popular.

I think Forest Alexander is really nice.

Or as a pp suggested, Forest Wolf is adorable!

Sherwood? Woody? Green? Ranger ........................ !

BettysButtons · 18/02/2021 23:24

If you’re going to call him Forrest you may as well go the whole way!
Lots of suggestions for ‘Alexander’. Either people don’t realise or are taking the p OP.

Wiki: Forrest Alexander Gump is a fictional character and the protagonist of the 1986 novel by Winston Groom, Robert Zemeckis's 1994 film of the same name, and Gump and Co., the written sequel to Groom's novel.

School, fire, clearing, maintenance, feller, try commission.

I can't believe people don't even guess that after 500 odd replies some clown (or 10) has already made the same inane joke as them?

Few things here.

People are making their point in an unnecessarily mean way.

People feel able to be far ruder about a baby‘s name before they’re born, than when they’re here, or in your case, far ruder in type than face to face.
I don’t think there’s anything personally wrong with the name itself. It’s a nature name, there are loads of them.

However...
one thing that I would live in fear of, and this is a genuine concern, is a remake of the film being made. I don’t find the 30 years ago thing comforting for this reason, it would make me think it’s about due for a remake, it happens all the time.

I’ve had similar thoughts myself regarding naming a hypothetical baby, my OH’s surname begins with T and every single one of my absolute favourite baby girls names begins with an E. It doesn’t bother me as things stand, but if E.T got remade...

Just something to consider. Aside from that, many congratulations on your new addition.

KindnessCrusader · 19/02/2021 09:10

Children now will have no idea who Forest Gump is. It's only adults that do. Adults bullying a child. Confused

BasiliskStare · 19/02/2021 14:59

@mamah2019 Gosh

@mamah2019 - I genuinely didn't know Alexander was Forrest Gump's middle name - I just think it is a nice name - I really was not taking the piss.
