Hi all just wondering what your thoughts are on naming a baby Emily if she will have a cousin she sees a lot, but 10 years older, called Emma? Is this too close or acceptable?! Thanks!

I think it's absolutely fine! Both lovely names.

ChelseaCat · 15/02/2021 13:25

Definitely fine!

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 15/02/2021 13:36

I think it’s okay. I’ve just been watching super nanny. They had 5 kids called
Emily Emerson Emmett Ember and
Emma-Jo which I do admit I did find kind of odd.

VanillaAndOrange · 15/02/2021 13:39

I don't see why not. I've known siblings with closer/more confusable names than that!

Rosieposie87 · 15/02/2021 14:51

Not a problem at all. X

31RooCambon · 15/02/2021 14:52

Not perfect but ok

amallierory · 15/02/2021 15:39

Not a problem, as long as they don't both get shortened to Em.

Dyinghouseplant · 15/02/2021 16:21

I know sisters called Emily and Emma but I always thought they were far too similar! Cousins isn't too bad though if you really love the name.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 15/02/2021 16:27

Cousins is absolutely fine imo. Emma and Emily are only too close if they were in the same household.

Ultimatecougar · 15/02/2021 16:28

I wouldn't. They both get shortened to Em whether you intend to or not.

NeverWillIEver · 15/02/2021 16:37

The Em bit wouldn't bother me with cousins 10 years apart.

I'd do it.

Nell96 · 15/02/2021 16:45

Absolutely fine

NameChange30 · 15/02/2021 16:47

Too similar for siblings but fine for cousins

sunflowertulip · 15/02/2021 16:50

Not ideal but not bad either if it's the name you really love. I know two cousins a few months apart called Oliver and Olivia which I wouldn't have gone with.

mamablondie33 · 15/02/2021 17:41

Absolutely fine! They are different names, classic and 10 years apart. Emily is lovely!

halcyondays · 15/02/2021 17:44

It’s fine for cousins. Would be too similar for sisters.

Whatsyourflava · 15/02/2021 17:45

Definitely fine
Both such lovely classic names too

GintyMcGinty · 15/02/2021 17:47

Absolutely fine and both are great classic names that have stood the test of time.

babynamelover · 15/02/2021 18:00

It's fine

I'm Anna and have a first cousin Hannah.

Milkshake7489 · 15/02/2021 18:18

How close are you? If you're the type of family that spends a lot of time together they are probably a bit too similar...

If you only see each other a couple of times a year it doesn't really matter Smile.

Kanaloa · 15/02/2021 18:38

For cousins I think it’s fine. I actually have the same first name as my cousin, so she was big Kanaloa and I was little Kanaloa. And lots of boys in my family share a family name, I think 3 of my cousins have it. The bigger cousin might even like it.

Serin · 15/02/2021 19:30

Of course its fine, I have 2 first cousins with exactly the same first name as me. All of us named after our grandmother!

BallsToYouSue · 15/02/2021 20:10

Totally fine!

Emily is popular to the point of being a bit ubiquitous where I live, but that may not be an issue where you are.

user1485155939 · 15/02/2021 20:17

Totally fine!

I've got an Emily and my niece is Emma 🙂

Gentlerose30 · 15/02/2021 21:14

Great thanks all!
