Are there any names you like even if you don’t love them?

I don’t like names that sound too princessy (Aurora, etc.) or a bit wet (Pansy, Lola, etc.). I also don’t particularly like names that sound old-fashioned (Margot, Edith, Agnes).

I like:
Elle
Ella
Eleanor
Aoife
Niamh
Kara
Aria
Merida
Lila

I like some names but wouldn’t use them because they’re so ridiculously popular at the moment:
Isla
Eva/Eve/Ava
Florence

@BeingATwatItsABingThing there is actually a name that we really like, and we thought we were settled on it. But I think I'm more worried about other peoples reactions, which I shouldn't be at all.

The name is Bria.

Probably shouldn't have shared that here as I've seen some of the baby name threads, people can be so harsh 😬

I prefer names that aren't overly used. My DSs are Logan (wasn't as common 13 years ago) and Arlo.

Thanks for all these suggestions everyone.

It's not a name i would personally choose but i think it works well with your boys names.

I must admit I’ve not heard of the name Bria before. I’m pronouncing it Breeya. Is that right? If so, I quite like it!

@BeingATwatItsABingThing yes Br-ee-ah

Nice! Different but not out of the realms of normal.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 15/02/2021 17:30

Bria is very unusual - I'd probably assume it was a nn for the more well known Breanna or Gabriella, but there's nothing wrong with Bria that I can see (other than people may misspell it). You might also like the similar Nia?

I tend to prefer names that are more well known but still way outside the top 100 - Claudia, Mara, Cara, Antonia, May, Eve, Thalia, Petra, Rosalind/Rosamund, Madeleine, Josephine, Juliet, Gaia, Isolde, Mireia, Marina, Nerissa, Christabel, Sylvie/Sylvia, Helena, Jessamine, Cassia are all some of the names I'm loving at the moment.

TempsPerdu · 15/02/2021 18:39

Honor
Juliet
Clover
Clio
Greta
Sylvia
Gaia
Daphne
Camille
Rosa
Iris

Whatsyourflava · 15/02/2021 19:24

Bria nice enough but too close to Bra for me

If you like short names how about

Cleo
Greta

Or how about

Jemima
Clementine
Verity
Audrey
Martha
Liberty
Peggy
Wren
Pearl
Nina

Serin · 15/02/2021 19:50

I know 2 Bria's, both early 20's.
One is American, the other is at Oxbridge. I think of it as quite a 'posh' name.

BallsToYouSue · 15/02/2021 20:22

Bria is nice!

There is also Bryony, which I love. Or Maria, which you could shorten to Ria. Or Gabrielle/Gabriella or Aubrey, which you could use Bria as a nn for maybe?
