Would Sophia be a bit close to Sophie (ie Sophie Wessex, Harry’s aunty, who I seem to recall ignored Harry & Meghan at the Westminster Commonwealth service along with Kate and William)?

Marcipex · 14/02/2021 23:01

Yes, Eugenie raised eyebrows at the time.
I’ve always liked it.
No idea of her taste in names. Felix?

thebestnamehere · 14/02/2021 23:03

@DustyVenetian

How lovely but why break the news in the same week Eugenie announced her birth

Because it's Valentine's Day, a day of celebrating love?

Eugenie's announcement was several days ago. I don't see any particular clash this time round (thank goodness)*

Megs announced she was pregnant with Archie at Eugenies' wedding so....

SnottyLottie · 14/02/2021 23:08

Maybe Eliza to honour granny but keep it fresh and modern.

There are a few Fredericks in royal name combinations so maybe they could use Freddie. I can also imagine Theodore/Theo or Alexander going quite well with Archie.

Kindlethefourth · 14/02/2021 23:09

Am sure Eugenie's name has links with lineage of queen Victoria with whom the duchess of York was fascinated. My money on Albert to link in with Granny's fascination and wasn't Bertie the Queens father's real name?

DulciUke · 14/02/2021 23:12

I greatly dislike the both of them but agree that the photo was lovely. As far as names go, like Archie, it will probably be something similarly non-royal .

JellyBabiesFan · 14/02/2021 23:12

My guess it will not be out of the fucking news until its born.

GoryGilmore · 14/02/2021 23:19

I would welcome constantly seeing news about lovely new babies, rather than the general gloom and doom we get these days surrounding covid.

What a spiteful comment @Greendoonan

wewillmeetagain · 15/02/2021 11:19

@Greendoonan that's exactly what I think, it's inevitable!

Kokeshi123 · 15/02/2021 13:48

Not Diana--that would be a bit too much. Not something traditionally royal like Mary. It will be something that works in the United States, like Alyssa or Emma.

Sangria · 15/02/2021 14:01

If it's a girl, Doriana. It's a bit like Gloriana, as in many things Queen Elizabeth I and II (including the Royal Barge) and it's an anagram of both grandmothers, Diana and Doria.

First I thought of having the first three letters of Diana followed by the last three letters of Doria, but probably better not.

Chutneywashisname · 15/02/2021 14:05

I think they will use Diana or Frances as a middle name, Harry will want a link between his daughter and mother just as William did. It has nothing to do with publicity and its something many many who lost their mother do. I certainly did.

If a boy, it could be anything but my guess it will more than likely end in ‘ie’ too like Archie.

35andThriving · 15/02/2021 21:04

Charlie if it's a boy.

ValpolicellaPrimitivo · 15/02/2021 21:08

@SnottyLottie

Also has anyone seen the rumours circulating in the media that Eugenie’s son has the middle name Stamp?
I think it's a family name on Jack Brooksbank's side.
Abraxan · 15/02/2021 22:02

Megs announced she was pregnant with Archie at Eugenies' wedding so....

Did she?
I thought that was just that people thought she did by wearing a coat that some felt made it clear she was pregnant, and felt she should have worn something which hid the fact.

AuntieStella · 15/02/2021 22:41

We don't know what was said, or in what terms at Eugenie's wedding.

We do know that the formal announcement was made on international baby loss day. SANDS had secured coverage on BBC. It's rare for such a difficult subject to get in to main programmes such as this. The first running of segment on BBC Breakfast had gone to plan.

Then, bang, gone

It's quite a big memorial day for those whose babies died at or around the time of birth. And deeply tactless (at best) not to have checked for the major 'days' before any announcement - actually surprised and disappointed that this got past their (then royal) staff who are usually considerably more assiduous
