Hi, would you consider these classless names? I’m not pregnant, just curious about general thoughts/reactions?

Julia:
Lily:
Anna (nn Annie probs):
Caroline:
Cara (pronounced “Care-uh” in my accent):
Laura:
Charlotte:

Right now, I’m loving the idea of daughters named Julia and Lily!

I like them all except Caroline and Charlotte (too home counties horsey for me).
My favourite is Laura. Really lovely classic but underused at the moment, travels well, plus I know some really great Laura's.

partyatthepalace · 13/02/2021 22:38

Yep.

I wouldn’t use Cara though because it will always be said KAR-ra in Uk.

Julia, Anna, Caroline are lovely.

Charlotte also lovely but overused.
Laura just doesn’t do it for me pronounced in English as LOR-ra (I think the Italian LAU-ra is much nicer but no one will say it like that)
Lily I think is both extremely wet and overused.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 13/02/2021 22:38

I really like all those names - all are fairly classic/traditional, "classness" names imo (with the exception of Cara, which likely hasn't been used long enough/often enough to be considered a classic compared to the others).

I especially like Julia, Anna and Cara. Lily is gorgeous too, but a bit too popular where I live for me to use personally. If you like Cara and Laura, you might also like Lara?

danascully96 · 13/02/2021 22:49

I forgot to say Elise, which I also like. Yeah, I figured Cara might have some accent issues Grin I like darkly romantic names, if that makes sense? Names like Laura, Rebecca, and Julia seem to fit that vibe.

@IamnotwhouthinkIam Lara would also fit the bill, but unfortunately it sounds terrible in my accent — “Lair-uh.”

I'm not keen on Elise (I think because it reminds me of Ellesse tracksuits 😂). Rebecca is lovely though.

FelicityStrongArrow · 14/02/2021 16:44

Julia & Laura. Lovely names.

FelicityStrongArrow · 14/02/2021 16:45

Rebecca is one of my all time favourite names that unfortunately I cannot use.

Synchrony · 14/02/2021 16:47

Yes, except Cara which I've only ever heard pronounced as Car-a rhyming with Tara.

PolarnOPirate · 14/02/2021 16:50

Love Julia! What about Juliet?

Bluesername · 14/02/2021 19:05

Julia - like, underused classic
Lily - like
Anna/Annie - like
Caroline - OK though dated
Cara - Care-uh is how I'd say the word carer so that would put me off
Laura - OK, also Lena and Louisa
Charlotte - OK

BallsToYouSue · 14/02/2021 19:12

I like Laura and Julia a lot and think they are die a revival. I've heard of two baby Julias born in the past few months, so maybe it is back already?

Similar style:

Erin
Rebecca
Rachel
Alexandra

JoKenda · 16/02/2021 00:03

Larissa instead of Laura?

Mally2020 · 16/02/2021 02:20

Only like julia can stomach lily and cara the rest absolutely not

Mockolate · 16/02/2021 02:22

Love Lily and Charlotte.

LittleGwyneth · 16/02/2021 14:33

I like Juliet more than Julia but they're both lovely, and I think Jules is such a sweet nn.

Other things you might like which are very classic, non-class specific names: Olivia, Grace, Amelia, Sophie, Sophie, Katie (Catherine), Lucy, Georgina.

Pemba · 16/02/2021 14:45

They are all great names. Caroline, Charlotte and especially Julia are slightly posh. In a good way! (not OTT).

They are all classic and fairly timeless (maybe not Lily so much but I still like it). My favourite is probably Anna.

Assume you are in the US maybe if you pronounce Lara and Cara as 'lair-ah and' care-ah'?

TatianaBis · 16/02/2021 14:56

What accent pronounces Car - Care?

danascully96 · 16/02/2021 20:53

American in UK :)
