What do you think of the name Maeve?

DH and I are really struggling for a name for DD2. This is the only one where we both went that's nice.

I'm just worried it's a bit old fashioned?

@Thebizz

I hate it but it’s popular on here.
Rhymes with brave.
Persipan · 13/02/2021 16:28

Oops, sorry, quoted the wrong person there!

ChocOrange1 · 13/02/2021 16:29

It's old fashioned but lots of old fashioned names are coming back round - I know little girls called Pearl, Ruth, Florence... I like Maeve :)

HideTanner · 13/02/2021 16:29

The queen of modern Maeves could have whupped this Westworld Maeve.

It’s a great name!

NorbertMeubles · 13/02/2021 16:34

I love it!!!!!

mamaduckbone · 13/02/2021 16:46

It's lovely.

Justkeeprollingalong · 13/02/2021 17:02

An excellent name.

Rockmehardplace · 13/02/2021 19:05

18 years ago a friend called her daughter Maeve and I just thought “yuck, ugliest name ever”.

Now, I absolutely LOVE it, there’s just something cool about it.

Cyberworrier · 13/02/2021 19:13

I like it and know a stunning and lovely Maeve in her late twenties. Never met another one including teaching.

ILoveShula · 13/02/2021 19:23

Enid is lovely if you use the welsh pronunciation (ENN-id) - it's an old welsh name.

I like Maud too, but Maeve is a bit too similar to Mae.

Beamur · 13/02/2021 19:26

The little Maeve I know is a proper character. Great name.

17caterpillars1mouse · 13/02/2021 19:27

Love it and don't find it old fashioned at all. It's similar to Niamh which is quite popular.
I also love Mavis and May

Chunkymenrock · 13/02/2021 19:28

No, it sounds frumpy.

Mylittlepony374 · 13/02/2021 19:28

Old fashioned

Ihatemyseleffordoingthis · 13/02/2021 19:29

Both!

I love it

Waitingfornothing · 13/02/2021 19:31

I love it ever since I watched Sex Education.

Think Rachel Riley called her daughter this although spelled Mave.

Waitingfornothing · 13/02/2021 19:32

Apologies. RR’s daughter is Maven not Mave Blush

forestsmurf · 13/02/2021 19:32

Love it, it was the middle name we picked if DS was DD!

Doidontimmm · 13/02/2021 19:33

My friend just called her baby that, it’s gorgeous

micc · 13/02/2021 19:33

Looooove Maeve
It is old fashioned but in a cool way, like Florence and Beatrice.
My granny was a Mavis and she went by Mave. It's really up and coming now! I wish I could of got it past OH!

Chunkymenrock · 13/02/2021 20:09

Could've.

ILoveStickers · 13/02/2021 20:33

Love it spelled Méabh.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 13/02/2021 20:35

I suspect in Ireland it may be a bit dated, but in England and Wales I think it sounds cool since it hasn't been used as much. Yet it somehow feels quite familiar, since it's kind of a blend of popular May and Eve - but Maeve also has a pretty, romantic feel to me.

babynamelover · 13/02/2021 20:44

It's just rocketed into the top 100 in NZ for 2020.
Before last year I knew of one.
