Boy name help/suggestions

Jinglebells87 · 09/02/2021 08:08

Hi everyone. I am struggling to name DC3! We are having a boy and his siblings are called Lola and Leo (no intentional "L" theme, just names we liked).

I have made a list of names I like but DP has said he doesn't love any boys names. His only suggestion is Jude and I unfortunately really don't like it (no offence to any Jude's!).

Here is my list in order of preference;

  1. Felix (I love this one!)
  2. Arlo (DP has completely ruled out!)
  3. Max
  4. Louie
  5. Marley (I want to love this one but not sure we are cool enough to pull it off Grin but it is really growing on me!)

Any thoughts or maybe names that I might have missed would be really appreciated! Thanks!!

I think Arlo and Louie are too much of a mouthful with Lola and Leo, they start to merge into a mass of vowels!
Max and Felix are both cute, max maybe works better.
I don't think Marley is particularly cool, no more so than Lola. The only one I know is a girl though.

FluffyEggsontoast · 09/02/2021 09:44

Love Marley. It's a totally acceptable name. You should use.

Tristan
Rex
Wilfred
Nathaniel
Hugo
Ellis
Eli
Laurence Laurie

Love Felix by the way.

  1. Felix - Cat food
  2. Arlo (DP has completely ruled out!) - I don't blame him
  3. Max - great
  4. Louie - Louis is a better spelling, but too many Ls and too many vowels
  5. Marley - awful. Fine for a dog.
VenusClapTrap · 09/02/2021 13:02

I think Max and Felix go well with your other dc’s names. The others not so much.

TinyCake · 09/02/2021 13:18

Max is nice

JemimaTiggywinkle · 09/02/2021 13:28

Felix and Max are my favourites.
Agree Louie is too similar to Leo and Lola.

I think Arlo has become very popular very quickly, so will probably seem quite dated in future.

Other suggestions: James, Jasper, Owen.

Zofloratheexplorer · 09/02/2021 13:44

Marley is fine. No hipster credentials are required 😀

NoSquirrels · 09/02/2021 14:00

I like Felix the best, closely followed by Max (but my issue with Max is that it sounds like a nickname but isn't. It goes best with your other sibling names though: Lola, Leo & Max.) Not at all keen on Louie, Marley or Arlo.

How about Elias? (if you want an 'l' sound in there). Or Luke/Lucas?
Or Noah, Ezra, Milo...

Jinglebells87 · 09/02/2021 14:12

Hi everyone. Thank you all for your input, it's nice to have some views from people other than family! I agree with the too many "L"s, I forgot to add that my name also begins with an "L" so we are becoming quite a tongue twister!!
I like Max but one thing holding me back is that my boss's son is called Max. I hate to feel like I'm copying! His son is like 17 and although I've met him twice in 3 years I've never even spoken to him Grin.
Thank you for some other suggestions, I love Milo but it's my nephew's name!
It is so tricky to find something nice that isn't already taken! We have to think of two middle names for him yet as well (silly family traditions!).

Alex?

FluffyEggsontoast · 09/02/2021 14:28

Fine to still use Max
I really doubt anyone would think (or care) that you have copied or not. Sounds like you loved the name anyway and it's pretty well used these days, I expect you boss would assume their son Max isn't the only Max you've come across

Smallonesaremorejuicy · 09/02/2021 14:30

Max or Felix go really well with your other children’s name . A lovely trio .

Fivemoreminutes1 · 09/02/2021 16:44

Jonah
Zak
Harvey
Finn
Toby

ButterflyOfFreedom · 09/02/2021 16:48

I'd go for another L name so they won't feel left out!

Lewis would be top for me.

Lennon
Leroy
Laurie
Lawrence
Luca
Lucas
Luke

partyatthepalace · 09/02/2021 17:00

I quite like your L theme and feel that maybe you should continue it?!
But I would spell Louis properly
Otherwise Laurie as nn for Laurence, Luke, Lucas, Lorne

I like Max and think it goes well with Lola and Leo (don't think your bosses son matters at all) I have an irrational dislike for Felix, and think Marley just sounds made up and try hard.

Otherwise... Joe (as nn for Joseph), Kit or Kip (for Christopher/Kester), Pip (for Philip), Nico (for Nicholas), Robin (for Robert), Nat (for Nathaniel),

MerryChristmasToYou · 09/02/2021 17:04

Linus?

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 09/02/2021 17:11

I like Felix best with Leo and Lola, but Max is very nice too (I wouldn't worry about your bosses son - Max is a popular classic, there will be quite a few about). I'm not keen on Arlo or Marley (too trendy, sorry) and Louie/Louis is a bit much with 3 "l" names already in the family. What initial does DP's name start with, it might be nice to match his?

Other suggestions:
Ethan
Evan
Rowan
Jack
Adam
Jacob
Isaac
and names with subtle "l" links/sounds:
Dylan
Elliot

WilsonandNoodles · 09/02/2021 17:26

I love Marley and think its on the same level of coolness as Lola so works well but I think with Lola and Leo, Felix is the name for me.

Jinglebells87 · 09/02/2021 19:06

Thank you again to you all for taking the time to reply. Some great suggestions have been made but they are either family or friends names or I just don't like them (sorry!).
It seems like Felix and Max are the most popular to go with my DD and DS Smile. It feels nice to narrow the list down a bit and has made things clearer!

Seb
Corey
Albie

Chilldonaldchill · 09/02/2021 20:18

Jude - my favourite. I think this is the coolest of your names
Felix - love this
Arlo - like this
Max - is ok. I know hundreds but it fits well with your other names
Louie - not with your other names
Marley - really don't like this. I don't think it's cool just a bit meh.

Other options with Lola and Leo:
Jake
Reuben
Otis
Otto
Ben

Lotsachocolateplease · 09/02/2021 20:34

I think you should avoid ‘L’ names completely and also names with an L like marley and arlo. Try saying arlo with your other two, it’s like a tongue twister.
Some great suggestions on here already and out of your suggestions I like Max the best.

Leo Lola and
Robert
Ben
Toby
Sam
Isaac
Zach
Hugo
Henry
Jake/Jacob
Joe/Joseph
Tom/Thomas
George
Ethan
