I've got a Sofia ( 28 ) and when I named her there were hardly any Sofia/Sophia around. Lots of Sophie's though!

Sonia is a bit dated and harsh sounding.

HenriettaHeffalump · 03/02/2021 16:51

I only like Sophie.

pilates · 03/02/2021 16:56

Sophia
Sonya has an 80’s feel to it

FinalSongbird · 03/02/2021 17:02

There's only one Sonia:

gottakeeponmovin · 03/02/2021 17:09

I just can't cope with Sonia or Sonja due to the musician and the trumpet player from Eastenders

Juanbablo · 03/02/2021 17:10

Sophia is my favourite.

Labobo · 03/02/2021 17:12

Sophia which is my all-time favourite girl's name. Then Sophie - also lovely. Don't like Sonya in any form. Names that end in nya/nia always sound whiny to me: Sonya, Tania etc.

Carouselfish · 03/02/2021 18:10

I like Sophia. Sonia is okay when not pronounced American style as Sewn ya.

WagnerTheWehrWolf · 03/02/2021 18:16

Liverpudlian songbirds and Eastend trumpeters aside, I'd be charmed to meet a baby Sonia.

It'll whoosh back into fashion with Nicola and Amanda in 20 years time anyway.

WagnerTheWehrWolf · 03/02/2021 18:18

Sophie is fine of course but I know approximately 287 of them. Sophia seems brash to me for some reason. Dislike it greatly.

DramaAlpaca · 03/02/2021 18:35

Sophie for me, it's lovely.

Then Sophia.

Not keen on Sonia/Sonya.

PattyPan · 03/02/2021 18:43

Sophia is my favourite, followed by Sophie. Sonia makes me think of interest rates. Sonya makes me think of the cousin in War & Peace - boring but essentially unobjectionable.

alyka25 · 03/02/2021 19:27

Thanks a lot!!! It looks like we have 2 options: Sophia (or Sofia) and Sophie... Such a difficult choice ;(((

ODFOx · 03/02/2021 19:30

They are both lovely options OP. Sophie is more traditionally English and Sophia more European. The choice is between 2 lovely names.
Congratulations!

NannyR · 03/02/2021 19:34

I love Sophie, simple and classic. Sophia is extremely popular around where I live and work.
Personally I don't like Sonia/sonya at all.

Embarrasedaf · 03/02/2021 19:36

Sophia every time

Suzi888 · 03/02/2021 19:43

Sophia

dingoesatemybaby · 03/02/2021 19:43

Sophie

Notapheasantplucker · 03/02/2021 19:48

Sophia/Sofia!Smile

partyatthepalace · 03/02/2021 20:18

Really like Sophie or Sophia (which is best would depend on your surname). I really dislike Sonia/Sonya.. to me it’s 70s in a bad way - makes me think of a faded barmaid or sex worker.

Bouledeneige · 03/02/2021 20:40

Sophie

Onlinedilema · 03/02/2021 21:32

Definitely not Sonia/Sonya.
Sophia or Sofia is much nicer.

ostrichlover · 03/02/2021 21:38

I think I like Sophia best. Names ending with a seem so feminine and pretty to me. I like Sofia too as a different spelling

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 03/02/2021 21:40

I like both Sophie and Sophia - lovely meaning and a nice sound (I have a slight preference for Sophia nn Sophy - feels very Austenesque). Sonia/Sonya seems a bit too 80's to me.

I'd decide on Sophie vs Sophia based on which sounds best with your surname; or if both sound good, then which is the least popular in your area (check the ONS website for local stats)

Minnie6078 · 03/02/2021 22:01

Definitely not sonya
