Really love Silas, it’s our runaway favourite. BUT.

He’d be brother to Tydus and Beatrice. And some people are already beginning to shorten Tydus’ name to Ty, and Silas is inevitably going to end up being shortened to Si, isn’t it? I can’t have a Ty and a Si, I’ll feel like I live in a cartoon.

Eli or Leon we both agree on but don’t love. We also really like Lennox and Brando but worry they’re a bit obscure (and we are neither Scottish nor Italian) so they’ve been on the “no” list.

Help! He’s going to be here soon!

Eli is a good nn for Elijah or Elias both of which are great. Or Elliott.

Silas reminds me of silage (country bumpkin) sorry realised this isnt the point

Yep me too 😂

ODFOx · 03/02/2021 21:18

I LOVE Silas but with Tydus you'll need to be very confident to carry it off. I suspect that you will be fine with it. Don't be put off: they are similar syllables but it isn't the end of the world: keep n sing their full names and they'll stick.

I read your op and scrolled down to suggest Seth but I see that a couple of pp have beaten me to it.

Seth would be fab with Ty and Bea.
Or Sebastian (Seb)
Or Ralph (pronounced Raif)
Or Jonathon (Jonty)

@lucymagoo, aah perhaps, can't say I've watched hollyoaks before......the name just gives me the heebie-geebies Grin

Marrilou · 04/02/2021 08:29

I haven't heard of the name being recently used, but Silas Marner is one of my favourite books so this makes me really like it. I think go for it - you don't need to shorten it and if others do then so be it!

@35andThriving

Josiah?

Could be Jo for short. I like Silas. Smile

Yes, or Jed.

Silas brings back happy memories of summer holiday TV when I was a kid.

Remember this series?

I feel Simeon sort of goes with Silas.
Nn would be Sim
Not a common name and avoids the simple adj often attached to Simon.

Mylittlesandwich · 05/02/2021 01:14

Is Silas not the name of the creepy monk from the Da Vinci Code? Sorry not helpful at all.

SirenSays · 05/02/2021 01:21

I like the name Silas, I think they go together quite well actually. I had the biggest crush on Silas from the show Weeds when I was a teenager

Onlinedilema · 05/02/2021 07:12

I was going to say use Silas but it sounds silly alongside Tydus. Lennox is awful. What ever name you choose you cannot stop nicknames. Most nick names are not chosen by parents, they are chosen by peers or aquaintences. Often it is the surname which gives rise to the nickname.

Silas is a great name. Stick with it!
