What does anyone think of Jackie for a boy?? I like it. But not sure if it’s too nicknamey

OP posts:

Call him Jack and he'll probably end up being called Jackie as a nickname anyway!

ofwarren · 02/02/2021 21:18

I wouldn't use it personally.
I would go for Jack and use Jacky as a nickname.
It sounds like a woman's name. Jackie Kennedy was who I thought of first.

PilatesPeach · 02/02/2021 21:18

Jackie Charlton is the only one I have heard of and he was a John. Does seem a bit dated to me. Nowadays it seems to be Jack all the time so Jackie seems unusual. Probably a no from me but I am of the belief that you should choose a name you love irrespective of other opinions.

Ohyesiam · 02/02/2021 21:20

Yes, too Nick namey

CoffeeRunner · 02/02/2021 21:20

No. I would choose Jack or possibly Jackson. Never Jackie for a boy.

Firebird83 · 02/02/2021 22:08

I would call him Jack and use Jackie as a nn

WagnerTheWehrWolf · 02/02/2021 22:20

Cute cute in a stupid ass way.

WagnerTheWehrWolf · 02/02/2021 22:21

that's a lyric from Jackie by Scott Walker. Jacques Brel's song.

HenriettaHeffalump · 02/02/2021 22:30

Jack is twee as it is and is originally a nickname for John. Jackie is ridiculous for putting on the BC imo (sorry).

partyatthepalace · 03/02/2021 00:29

Fine as a nn for John/Jonathan/Jackson/Jack - but not standalone.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 03/02/2021 02:36

No, I wouldn't. I know some people might think Jackie Stewart or even Jackie Chan but I think most people will find it very feminine sounding (as well as a bit cutesy). It's fine as a nickname for Jack or John though imo.

Aquamarine1029 · 03/02/2021 02:37

Definitely not as a given name. Far too diminutive for a grown man. Your baby won't be a baby forever.

JemimaTiggywinkle · 03/02/2021 05:48

All the Jackie’s ever I’ve met are women aged 50 plus... would be like naming him Linda.

ChristmasinJune · 03/02/2021 05:59

Jack is cute and quite a safe name. Jackie as a naturally occurring nickname for a baby or very young child, not to my taste but ok.
Saddling your poor child with a dated woman's name for life=hideous, please don't do that because you're trying to be original. Stick with Jack!

Porridgeoat · 03/02/2021 06:10

It’s a girls name. A nice one.

Terriblecreature · 03/02/2021 06:28

I had an Uncle Jackie. I think it's cool and you certainly don't hear it often at all

joystir59 · 03/02/2021 06:34

Horrible.

Twizbe · 03/02/2021 07:03

I know an adult Jackie. He's french and his full name is Jaques.

I think it's fine as a nick name but not as their formal name.

AmazingBouncingFerret · 03/02/2021 07:07

My Dad is known as Jackie. I’d go for it but probably just as nickname.
