Ahana? Still undecided...

We were looking at similar names to Anoushka and Anjali yesterday and came across Ahana, which has only added to the confusion as we love this one too! What does everyone think? Thanks :)
Swaying a bit more towards this one as Anoushka isn’t as Indian as Ahana & Anjali. I prefer the sound of Ahana to Anjali, it’s a bit softer.

And it’s pronounced like Alannah!

I like it but think it may get misheard as Alana. I love Anoushka and Anjali. I prefer Anjali out of the 3.

Trisolaris · 02/02/2021 12:00

I love Ahana, beautiful name!

Swingometer · 02/02/2021 12:01

I think you would spend a lot of time saying "like Alannah but with an H"

It is very easy to mishear so suspect would cause a lot of confusion

I prefer Anjali or Annouska

Soubriquet · 02/02/2021 12:02

Ahana looks like you’ve misspelt Hannah

I like Anoushka though

Monkeytennis97 · 02/02/2021 12:06

A-ha!

Sorry but it's too Partridge-esque for me.

WagnerTheWehrWolf · 02/02/2021 12:06

It's very pretty. The only issue would be people mishearing it as Alana or Hannah.

FelicityPike · 02/02/2021 12:10

It’s very pretty.
I haven’t heard it before.

M0rT · 02/02/2021 12:14

I like it, it's new to me but very phonetic I would have pronounced as you said just from reading it.

SmeleanorSmellstrop · 02/02/2021 12:17

Surprised to hear you say Anoushka isn't an Indian name? As it is. It is ALSO used in otjer places but is still very much an Indian Hindu name. I think it's lovely.

Really don't like Ahana purely because it sounds too much like that sickly sweet 'Ohana means family, and family means no-one gets left behind or forgotten' line from Lilo and Stitch (which I vividly remember because I knlw a few people sho got it tattooed on them/wrote it as rheit social media bios/etc and I think if I heard this name I might assume it was Ohana and you were a die hard Disney fan.

Anjali is much better but Anoushka is by far the best (in my opinion).

How can Ahana be pronounced as Alanna?

1940s · 02/02/2021 12:29

@1940s

How can Ahana be pronounced as Alanna?
To rhyme with or literally sounding exactly the same as Alannah?
Monsoon31 · 02/02/2021 12:31

Thank you everyone for all your helpful comments so far, a lot to think about!
@1940s Sorry I meant it sounds similar to how Alannah is pronounced!

I like Ahana. It's more unusual than Anjali.

yd273 · 02/02/2021 14:02

I have a cousin called Ahana, beautiful name, they do live in India. Anoushka is lovely - I have a friend who spells it Anushka.

Chilldonaldchill · 02/02/2021 20:33

I love Anjali and Anoushka.
I'm not so keen on Ahana. I can't get away from the Aha at the beginning.

PurpleOnion · 02/02/2021 22:39

I have a friend named Anjana (uhn-juh-nuh). Possibly another option as it's like a cross between Ahana and Anjali?

I'm a sucker for Anjali though. Beautiful, musical name.

HenriettaHeffalump · 02/02/2021 22:43

I like Ahana. It's lovely. But I do slightly prefer Anoushka. However, I'm not Indian and don't know that much about the origins of the names. They are all lovely. I prefer these two^^ to Anjali fwiw, but it is also nice.

partyatthepalace · 03/02/2021 00:25

I think the spelling / pronunciation difference will be a life-long pain, so I wouldn’t.

Subordinateclause · 03/02/2021 01:35

Alannah is pronounced differently depending where you are in the UK (short or long a) so presume this would be the same. Just something else to consider.

Bellasorella1 · 03/02/2021 01:45

Sorry but I just saw it as aha na and visualised someone looking over their newspaper.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 03/02/2021 04:02

To me Anjali and Ahana sound Indian and Anoushka sounds Russian. All 3 are pretty, but if you want Indian sounding and ease of spelling/pronunciation (in the UK), I'd chose Anjali.

Ahana may often get said/spelt like Hannah with an A at the front rather than "Ah - hah -nah" - where as I think Anjali is better known.

If you aren't bothered about this, then I personally think Ahana just about pips the other 2 for nicest sound.

Blueskytoday06 · 03/02/2021 04:06

I don't like it (sorry)

joystir59 · 03/02/2021 04:21

Ahana sounds like a sneeze! I love Anjali.

Monsoon31 · 03/02/2021 12:28

Thank you everyone for the feedback! I’ve eliminated Ahana as some very valid points have been raised which concern us e.g. pronunciation issues and sounding like a sneeze etc... doesn’t seem as substantial of a name as Anoushka or Anjali.
I want to pick a strong name, back to Anoushka & Anjali now! I wonder which name sounds the nicest/ strongest out of these two, they both sound similar to me.
