Names that go with Rory

We have a lovely Rory already, and are looking for some names to go with. Ideally pretty classic with nothing too "out there".

I know it's twee, but I would ideally like to go with another 4-letter name. None of the names have grabbed us like they did with Rory (Rose if he'd been a girl) - one of us mentioned the name and that was it, we were decided.

There are loads of well known 4 letter names for girls - Lara, Sara, Tara, Cara, Mara, Zara, Anna, Nina, Emma, Ella, Edie, Evie, Alma, Alva, Elsa, Etta, Nell, Gwen, Tess, Gaia, Maia, Kaia, Hera, Cora, Dora, Lily, Orla, Lyra, Lila, Mila, Aria, Rhea ... I could keep going, you are really spoiled for choice.

Boys are much harder (a lot are variants of John or nicknames) - Sean, Evan, Owen, Euan/Ewan, Ioan, Iolo, Luke, Mark, Seth, Jack, Zach, Jago, Milo, Arlo, Theo, Nico, Cole, Ivor, Paul, Saul, Orin.

Love Mary and Theo, not big on Ezra sadly. I do like Arlo but DH is resistant! I am also warming to Luke.

We were really spoilt first time around - agreed on names after 10 minutes of discussion.

I love Alec, John, Peter and Samuel! They’re some of my favourite names, and my DS is one of them.

Not keen on Esme as it’s really overdone where I live, but Rose is very nice.

Not Jack, too close to 'Jackanory', I know two brothers called these names!

Not a huge fan of Jack, but it does worry me that John could have Jack as a nickname, something to consider!

Congrats to you, and how exciting for Rory to have a sibling on the way. I love your taste in names, I know a set of siblings John, Alex & Sam, and another trio Luca, Hugh & Adam. My vote would be for Rory & Sam (working either way if it’s Samuel or Samantha, but day to day, Sam).

Adam is lovely, definitely the same feel.

Hugo fits, but they sound very 'of the moment' together!

How about Hebe for a girl? Rory and Hebe sounds brilliant.

Samuel is my top name, absolutely love it. Husband harder to convince as he doesn't like the nickname Sammy (but I think it's super cute!). Not as keen on Samantha though.

Big fan of the suggested Hugo, Anna & Alex too - also really like Kate although there was a girl at my primary school who I didn't like called that....should probably get over it!! Adam also a fave. Thanks all, lots to think about and lots of inspiration!

Agreed that Rory and Hugo is perhaps a bit much, Rory and Alex seems more reasonable somehow. Hebe is interesting - is it short for anything? Rory and Adam I also love. Would Rory and Rose work or does it sound too similar?

Otherwise leaning towards Rory and Mary (to many "y" noises?) or Rory and Esme (again, a little too "of the moment" perhaps).
