I don’t know what we are expecting as keeping it a surprise but D day is drawing nearer. Have chosen a boys name but not sure on girls names yet.

Harriet in birth certificate but Hattie to us straight away...thoughts?

Love it with Harriet on the BC. One of my favourite names and shortenings.

sadpapercourtesan · 31/01/2021 18:42

Hattie is lovely, very sweet but not saccharine.

Harriet is a great name too and offers several shortenings - Hattie, Harri, Ettie, Etta

ChristmasJumpers · 31/01/2021 18:43

My goddaughter is Hattie (just Hattie on bc though). It's a lovely name 😊

chickenninja · 31/01/2021 18:46

It's nice and I do like it but I've got a cockney accent so I don't pronounce my H's. Or T's when they're in the middle of a word.
So if you're anywhere near the south east she'd get called 'a-ee'!
Not trying to put you off just shedding a light on the name.

Our friends' little girl is Harriet / Hattie, and so is DH's cousin's eldest. Lovely, classic name.

partyatthepalace · 31/01/2021 19:04

Nice choice.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 31/01/2021 19:14

Although it's not exactly my taste (I tend to prefer softer sounding names), Harriet is fairly classic and well known but not overused so is a good choice imo (and I love the retro feeling nn Hattie).

Firebird83 · 31/01/2021 19:23

Nice with Harriet on the bc. Don’t like it as a standalone name though.

ClementineFox · 31/01/2021 22:57

I love it!

DramaAlpaca · 31/01/2021 22:58

Very nice.

zigaziga · 31/01/2021 23:03

Oh I LOVE Harriet with Hattie as a nn.

Ebee19 · 31/01/2021 23:22

100% love Harriet/Hattie - perfect name and suits every age and setting. She also has alternative nicknames for different phases which always good :)

MercyBodle · 01/02/2021 03:30

As a nickname for Harriet (which I love) I like it.

mumandcub · 01/02/2021 08:26

Thank you all 😊 it’s one of the only names me and DH have agreed on so far.

Thoughts on middle names...
Harriet Daisy
Harriet Ellen
Harriet Alice
Harriet Freya

We have a long surname so would rather not have a long middle name.

I have a Hattie Hope-Hattie on birth certificate-22yrs now. Never had another Hattie at school, college or Uni.She is known as Hats, Hattie-tat!
She has always loved her name, as have we.

Disfordarkchocolate · 01/02/2021 08:37

I love Hattie.

I misread that and thought she was Hope-Hattie double barrelled!
JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 01/02/2021 09:32

Love it!

Bluespace · 01/02/2021 10:48

I’ve got a Harriet nn. Hattie Rose

reprehensibleme · 01/02/2021 10:53

Love it - Harriet is a beautiful name and Hattie is a great nickname.

Volcanoexplorer · 01/02/2021 10:56

I love this and would have considered it for dd, but a family friend who we see fairly regularly already has a Hattie.

Dotinthecity · 01/02/2021 10:58

I love Harriet and Hattie as a nickname. I think it’s underused.

KirstenBlest · 01/02/2021 14:06

Harriet Alice

SE13Mummy · 01/02/2021 17:20

Harriet nn Hattie is a great name. I know a teenaged Hattie (Harriet officially) and a couple of under 5-year-old ones too so it doesn't feel overused to me and I like the flexibility of it as a name e.g. your DD could choose to be Harrie/Harry instead when she's older.

Of your middle names, I like Daisy the most. Although I love the name Alice, I think Harriet Alice sounds a bit like Harrier Tallis. Other middle names I think go well include Primrose, Mary, Claire, Susan, Ruth.
