My partner wanted to chose a middle name for our daughter. He really likes Caylen. Would like people to give their honest opinions on this please.

I've never heard of it. It looks a bit odd. Pronounced like Kay-Lynn?

helpmum2003 · 30/01/2021 18:02

Honestly it looks made up but sounds ok and would be fine as a middle name.

SummaLuvin · 30/01/2021 18:47

Ghastly

KirstenBlest · 30/01/2021 18:55

Makes me think of Galen from Planet of the Apes.

Caylen is awful, sorry.

Caley (surname) is nicer, or Kayleigh.

Sarcobaleno · 30/01/2021 18:58

Middle names are a free pass. Go for it.

AllMyPrettyOnes · 30/01/2021 19:07

Horrible

partyatthepalace · 30/01/2021 20:09

Don't like it, and it sounds made up. But as middle name - it wouldn't bother me if he really wants it (and it's not as downmarket as Kayleigh...)

MBb217 · 30/01/2021 20:14

Looks and sounds ok, but she may always have to spell it out whenever giving her full name for anything. But then again my middle name is unusual and I’ve had to do that my whole life and it’s not overly bothered me!

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 31/01/2021 01:14

Agree that middle names aren't as important as firsts (so if you have chosen your favourite first name, you might have to let him chose the middle) but I'm not keen on Caylen personally - as it looks like a recent invention. What about similar Caitlin?

DramaAlpaca · 31/01/2021 01:16

I think Caylen is pretty and perfectly fine as a middle name.

Rubybluesy · 31/01/2021 01:26

Awful

WellityWellityWellity · 31/01/2021 08:48

Not keen, sorry.

Can you tell us the first name? Maybe we can suggest some alternatives?

Edenember · 31/01/2021 08:55

Not keen

EssieMay · 31/01/2021 10:01

It is a real name its French. However im not at all keen myself but didnt want to lead anyone. Felt if he saw opinions from other people (know mumsnet is famous for brutal no feelings spared opinions lol) he might change his mind and he did.. weve now gone for something more traditional we both like. Thanks for your honestly guys 🙂

It doesn't look French. If it is, it would be pronounced very differently from in English.

Is your husband French?

daisypond · 31/01/2021 10:16

That cannot be a French name, surely.

WellityWellityWellity · 31/01/2021 10:19

I lived in France when I was younger and never came across it...but maybe it's just a lesser known one. Would it be pronounced without the n sound, as in French words ending -en?

rainbowstardrops · 31/01/2021 10:34

I like it but glad you've agreed on a name that you both like now.

MercyBodle · 31/01/2021 12:23

I'm not keen on it.

TJ17 · 31/01/2021 12:40

I know of a boy named Caelan (pronounced Kay-Lun)

I like it for him but it just reminds me of a boys name.

KirstenBlest · 31/01/2021 14:36

Sounds like Kaolin.

It's probably a surname and one of the baby names sites will have given it a meaning without researching the name.
